Tony - Here's a dime. Go call your folks and tell them that you are not likely to grow up to be anything worthwhile.

And, Tony, we are now sending you to the Home for the Terminally Stupid. We hope you enjoy the bus ride.

Bub-bye now.

"Something like the U.S./Indian wars of yesteryear. "

Yeah, and we know how those turned out.

Someone posted an email from Moveon.org here on this site.

It was a few hours before the speech and even had a template and some talking points.

I think you're definitely on to something.

In our local rag, there has rarely been a day in recent weeks that least one "common, ordinary citizen" hasn't written demanding the impeachment of GWB.

The right is still lagging far behind the left in its PR efforts, IMHO.

Every day there are news reports about more deaths. Every night on TV there are photos of death and destruction. Why are we still there?
>
>We occupied this land, which we had to take by force, but it causes us nothing but trouble. Many of our children go there and never come back. Why are we still there?
>
>Their government is unstable, and they have loopy leadership. Many of their people are uncivilized. The place is subject to natural disasters, which we are supposed to bail them out of. Why are we still there?
>
>There are more than 1000 religious sects, which we do not understand. Their folkways, foods and fads are unfathomable to ordinary Americans. We can't even secure the borders. Why are we still there?
>
>They are billions of dollars in debt and it will cost billions more to rebuild, which we can't afford. Why are we still there?
>
>It is becoming quite clear....................
>
>WE MUST PULL OUT OF CALIFORNIA!

They started the campaign before Bush even made the speech.

"I am confused by the rhetoric of the president and his conservative Christian supporters regarding support of our military personnel, how brave they are, and what cowards are the Iraq insurgents (whatever that means). It seems to me that people who volunteer to learn to become indiscriminate killers on command, who wear body armor and hide in armored vehicles, who use Star Wars-type weapons against anything, cannot be compared in bravery and valor to individual people strapped with explosives who want to kill foreigners who want to change and control their way of life."

I have a hard time believing that this is a real letter written by a concerned reader. There's just simply too little truth containted in it for it to be much more than propoganda intended to fire up the angry young anarchist base that the likes of Move-On use to try and sway public opinion.

I also find it hard to believe that someone in their old age who apparently pays attention to world events could be so blind to what is going on.

The "insurgents" in Iraq aren't valient freedom fighters attempting to overthrow an occupying force.

They target civilians and the Iraqi police forces as much if not more than our troops. They attack the democraticly elected Iraqi government and constantly attempt to assinate officials of that government.

They claim our soldiers kill indiscriminately on command. Yet our government has consistently held our soldiers accountable for their actions when they did things that were unacceptable.

The "insurgents" attack civilians and kill hundreds of people looking to become police and protect the people from criminals, yet this person calls them brave individuals.

The person who wrote that letter is an enemy of democracy, individual freedom, and the United States. Their clear effort to misrepresent the facts makes it clear that they are either extremely irrational, or that they are purposfully lying to undermine our nation's efforts to help secure freedom and self governance for the Iraqi people.

They are either an irrational person in need of medical aid and supervision, or they are simply a traitor.

The San Diego Union Tribune is also showing itself to be either extremely irresponsible or complicit in this effort to spread untruthful propoganda. No reputable news organization would publish such garbage. I see the merrit in publishing letters which represent a wide variety of opinions, but the statements in those letters must be based in fact.

If a position cannot be supported by the writer relying on the facts, then the newspaper should not enable the spread of their lies. Especially when those lies unjustly attack the brave men and women who risk their lives to defend us.

"learn to become indiscriminate killers on command"

Anyone who can refer to US military personnel as "indiscriminate killers" is simply far too STUPID (never mind everything else one might say about them) to take seriously. Unfortunately, this problem afflicts most of the political left. Whatever else one can say about US operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. they are conducted with enormous care to avoid civilian casualties. Many US soldiers, Marines, and airmen have risked and even lost their lives striving to avoid innocent casualties, so every leftist moron who repeats this sort of "indiscriminate killers" mantra is slandering all US forces, just as was done so often during Vietnam. We could kill a lot more terrorists if we were willing to be 'indiscriminate' but then a lot more civilian bystanders would be killed, too. Unlike the Islam-fascists, who take pride in maximizing innocent casualties, the US forces make enormouse efforts to minimize innocent casualties. That is one of the things the mindless left can never seem to grasp, because they would rather join in propaganda on behalf of fanatics.

For those that are interested, I checked the phone listings and there is a Tony San Miguel listed in Vista, CA. Moreover, I know from experience that it is the policy of the U-T to check the name authenticity of writers that it publishes in it Letters column.

Also, after checking around, I was unable to find an exact copy of Mr. San Miguel's letter, or any of it's key phrases, published elsewhere recently. That dipwad apparently really does believe what he said.
