President Bush could pull a sneak play and appoint Sen. Cornyn to the Supreme Court. Cornyn was a TX Supreme Court judge before running for Senator.
If he did, this would bust open a new Senator slot in Texas. That would interject some energy in a rather dull 2005 primary and general election in Texas.
It would be hard for the Democrats to turn down a fellow Senator for confirmation, and Sen. Cornyn is as conservative as they come.
If Ginsburg retires also, then this could become a lock on conservative SCOTUS. This will have the liberals in cold sweats all Summer long. :)

The Dems would turn on their own mother just to keep a conservative off the court

I will not be surprised to see the name of Sen. John Cornyn mentioned here, although I would prefer to see him run for president in 08. But he might be 100 times more valuable on SCOTUS.

Cornyn seems a little squishy to me. A little squeamish. Perhaps lacking the belly for the wet work. Like he's gotten out front of the illegal alien question, but he's right behind the president's amnesty plan.
