"Being thin and small will be a plus in hell - she'll handle the heat better."

Oh, I hope not. Thin and crispy never appealed to me. Plus I never assumed that hell had flames. Maybe it's exposure to Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, but it gives me pleasure to imagine each person has specially tailored punishments. For people like Ginsburg, I imagine being forced to speak her oath to defend the Constitution over and over again would be enough.

he certainly doesn't have to nominate them prior to 2007 (when our larger Senate majority will be seated).

Counting our chickens before they are hatched, ey? Having gotten gains so many terms in a row, it may come as a suprise but we can lose seats in 2006. This is especially true if the war doesnt show improvement and the GOP gets bad press for overreaching on SCOTUS debate.

We should fill the positions as they come. Do one at a time, so we make sure we do it right.
If we try to "guess" ahead, we'll be counting our chickens before they hatch.

If Ginsburg goes look for Edith Jones and Janice Rogers Brown.

Bush does not seem to share the love for Ms Brown that we do.

What about Justice Stevens? He just turned 85. He can't last forever.

Bush needs to appoint Luttig, Roberts and Jones. In that order.

Very true, but here is my top three.

Janice Rogers Brown
Michael J. Luttig
Senator John Cornyn of Texas

"Sort of a reverse Roosevelt, you are saying. I think the only reason not to appoint is if he can't get the appointments through. Otherwise, get our folks in there as soon as possible."

All true, but keep in mind that the MORE conservative our Senate, the more conservative our SCOTUS appointees can be, so there is some small logic in delaying *some* SCOTUS nominations (not for O'Connor or Rehnquist's replacements, of course) until after the GOP adds 3 more net Senate seats in 2006 (because Dems have been fighting President Bush, the Iraq War, Tom DeLay, lower Court appointments, and now SCOTUS appointments...rather than concentrating on their vulnerable Senate seats in 2006 - meaning that they will suffer and lose in the races that count in the following November).

I can't wait until somebody uses "eminent domain" to build a McDonald's on top of her gravesite.

That old goat Ginsburg will NEVER resign no matter how sick she is. Avowed Leftist that she is, she would consider it her duty to die on the job. tht way maybe she can squeeze one more "destroy America" vote in.

It would be hard for the Democrats to turn down a fellow Senator for confirmation, and Sen. Cornyn is as conservative as they come.

I guess you missed how the Dems sliced and diced John Ashcroft when he was up for AG Huh?

The Dems would turn on their own mother just to keep a conservative off the court

"I prefer someone (anyone) with an established record of conservative, constitutional decisions.. "
I will not be surprised to see the name of Sen. John Cornyn mentioned here, although I would prefer to see him run for president in 08. But he might be 100 times more valuable on SCOTUS.

"I also think that there is no way Ginsberg would go to let a conservative be appointed unless she had to go."

Keep in mind that most clueless people on both the far Left and far Right have no *idea* why the Bush's have been buddy-buddy friendly with the Clinton's (i.e. the people who put Ginsberg on the SCOTUS in the first place)...

I have similar beliefs. I believe she'll join Blackman and others in a room where she will listen, for all eternity, to 40 million plus babies scream as they are being suctioned apart.

Well, I guess the lefties in the Senate won't demand she be replaced by a "moderate" O'Conner clone.

You can't get any more extreme than the ACLU.

Maybe she's sick at the thought of losing her home to eminent domain.
