"Ride With The Devil" dealt with the no-quarter irregular warfare in Missouri and Kansas between the pro-Confederate Bushwhackers and the pro-Union Jayhawkers. It was directed by Ang Lee, the noted Taiwanese director. Fancy that! It took a Taiwanese to make a decent Civil War film! "Ride" was one of Tobey Maguire's first movies. Jim Caviezel, later of "The Passion of the Christ," portrayed Black John Ambrose, a fictional version of Bloody Bill Anderson. Jeffrey Wright gave an outstanding performance as a freed slave riding with the Bushwhackers.

If you like Civil War films with historically correct firearms and correct accents, I highly recommend "Ride With The Devil." It's out on DVD, but it may be hard to find. I probably snagged one of the first copies pressed. It's on VHS, but it's pan-and-scan, and the sound quality is not as good.

"I highly recommend "Ride With The Devil."

I've made a mental note.
