I can't name one democrat in the senate tough on illegal immigration.

Of all Senators, Republican and Democrat, the Senator with the single best record on securing the border and stopping illegal immigration is Robert Byrd (D-WV). No Republican Senator can even come close to matching his record. I despise Robert Byrd but he has a great record on this issue.

A few posters here have noted that Hillary voted for the Ag-Jobs Amnesty which is true. But as part of the same Iraq War Supplemental Funding Bill, she also along with all 44 other Democrat Senators voted unanimously for the Robert Byrd Amendment which added funds for 1000 new Border Patrol Agents, 500 new interior ICE Agents and 1900 new detention beds. Only 20 Republican Senators could bring themselves to vote for stronger borders while 34 voted against the Byrd Amendment.

Those who don't think the Democrats can't take the illegal immigration issue away from Republicans are crazy. Controlling illegal immigration is a strong fit with their labor union, african-American, and recent legal immigrant base. They will do anything to get back power and they needn't fear losing the Hispanic vote because most legal Hispanics are against illegal immigration and no Republican has a hope of out-pandering the Democrats when it comes to handouts, freebies and racial politics.

Hillary is getting advise from a master politician. She only needs to peel off a tiny number (60,000) votes in a labor state like Ohio to win.

And it's noteworthy that George Allen voted against the Byrd Amendment.
