I've never understood how children could be illegitimate, when it was the relationship that produced them that wasn't legal.

a married man is assumed to be the father of his wife's child
The law in California is the same. There is no illegitimacy and a husband is assumed to be the father of his wife's children.

Wow. ...pot...kettle black and a rash of vulgarities in the thread.
Our leaders (pretty near all of 'em) in the USA won't allow use of the word, illegitimate, either. Judges and legislators (including Republicans) go ballistic over it.
Many Republicans are wanting to run a well known Kansas politician for the office of US president. I wrote to him in the '90s with regards to the problem of rampant "illegitimacy" here. He went nuts in his reply, implying that all divorcing/separating women are perfect and the men they divorce, all guilty and solely at fault.
I knew a Missouri Republican politician (State) who had been divorced seven times and married eight, according to local rumors. It was no problem for him, because he could afford to pay for all the wives and kids (IOW, not guilty). ...heck with 'em all.

"whatever froggie is for bastard"
I think it's something like Italien, Allemand or Britannique The only difference between them and the rest is that they don't pretend to like us while insulting us behind our backs.

a married man is assumed to be the father of his wife's child while an unmarried man must recognize a baby as his. So if I get married in France and my wife gets pregnant by the milkman, even if I divorce her I will have honor of supporting the result?
Considering that this is also the law in many parts of America, bachelorhood keeps looking better and better.
