No Movement On [California] State Budget Impasse

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders met for about two hours Sunday but couldn't reach agreement on the state budget.

The governor and his Republican colleagues are locked in a struggle with the Legislature's Democratic majority over a tiny fraction of the overall budget expected to exceed $115 billion next year.

Schwarzenegger has proposed a spending plan that includes no new taxes and no new borrowing. An improving economy has provided the state with almost $4 billion in unexpected revenue that the governor wants to use to cover state services and increase funding for schools and transportation programs.

Democrats have accepted virtually all the governor's plan but want to spend about $1 billion more to help education and health care programs. Republicans are reluctant to give in to the extra spending because they don't believe the state can afford it.

Participants in Sunday's meeting said progress was being made but declined to give any details.

"We're working hard, we're getting closer and we had a very constructive meeting," said Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles. Nunez said staff would review the latest proposals, and negotiations will resume Tuesday, following the July 4 holiday.

Looks like RINOLD is spending the "revenue" (i.e. taxpayer money) back on social programs.

And... As ususal... I watched him about a month ago come rushing onto TV all out of breath on how the unexpected revenue was all going to be directed to roads in this budget!!! (at least it was like 3.1 billyun as I recall)

They're workin his differential over real good in those "big 5" closed door sessions and no matter how much slimey egg they put on his ridiculous face, the kool aid drinker(s) right here on FR will come out spinnin and singin his praises in true lies, diehard fashion!!!

And what REALLY gits me are the FReepers on here who should absolutely know better because they are in a position to know exactly what's going on... coming on here and rationalizing and equivocating along "party lines" to keep trying to prop up this lousey acting job!!!

It just makes me fighting mad that they can't stand up for CA in this crucial battle with this trojan horse racking ruin in the Crapitol in Sacra-ment-to-do-it-but-just-couldn't-do-it after all is said and done!!!
