"My grandparents from Poland came legally to America, started speaking English, worked hard and opened their own business. They never got anything free."

My ancestors on both sides came here prior to the Revolutionary war and they never got anything free either. Its not an immigration issue, it's a government welfare program issue.

(By the way, my ancestors were Appalachian sharecroppers and my farther rode the rails during the Great Depression looking for work, so length of time in country isn't the determining factor)

Yep. Mine came from Whales on ships. They worked in the coal mines digging coal for the railroads. There were no free handouts. People worked for a living back then. They appreciated being here.

It can be if they don't attempt to become legal and work without paying payroll taxes and continue to get government freebes.
