Alberto Gonzales just became Atty. Gen. Let him stay where he is and nominate someone more conservative. Al is not very well liked by Bush's conservative base because of his views on abortion and Affirmative Action.
You don't know what his views on abortion are. A Texas Supreme Court justice does not have the opportunity to write cases on that issue. He takes the law as given--from the US Supreme Court.
The reality is that you really don't know very much about Gonzales' record at all because he was only on the Texas Supreme Court for 2 years. That's not long enough to write enough cases to establish any real record.
If your criticism was that Gonzales was only on the court for 2 years, and thus does not have an established conservative record, then I might understand the logic at least, but it ignores that 4 out of seven Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican Presidents based on their supposedly conservative records turned out to be liberals. Obviously, looking at their records doesn't work. What you really need is a nominee who the President knows personally, and who he knows will support his conservative agenda.
