The Herald Sun of Australia has a team of 16 missing of which one has been rescued. I first heard 7 then I heard 4 now 16 does anyone know the true number?

"A US Special Forces operative missing since Tuesday in Afghanistan has been rescued, CNN has reported.

Quoting an unidentified US official, CNN said the soldier, who had been among a 16-member team which disappeared, was rescued by US forces and was in good shape.

CNN quoted the official as saying he had "evaded the enemy". The search continues in eastern Afghanistan for the rest of the missing 15 US troops. "

If they got it from CNN then it must be 6 not 16.

The Herald Sun is mistaken. They're confusing the 16 dead who were on the helicopter probably.

There were 16 US SOF killed that were part of the QRF (MH47-helo) that went down -

This QRF was going in to recover a SEAL Recon Team who's location had been overrun (by over a hundred al Qeade / Taliban)

The number "missing" is not openly known. It is not 16, however. It is between 4 an 8 SEALs.

Good morning.

Recon teams are generally 5/6 man units. Two teams are sometimes joined for ambushes and other aggressive mission.

Snipers sometimes work in smaller units but they don't conduct long range reconnaissance mission. My understanding is that this was a LRS (Long Range Surveillance) mission. It's the best kind of work the military offers until things go south.

Luck to our war fighters
