If the Rock Stars were true to their convictions they would put their own money where they want their dumbass fans to put their's , until the entertainers had no more left after the donation than does their fan's after they donate. The entertainers would still have been less generous than their fans, because the fan's will work for weeks to earn back their donation, while the star will almost instantly be repaid from royalties, if they never work again.

The problem is that rock stars as a whole don't have to be true to any conviction or principle when they are making so much money from fans. Obscene, crude, offensive, and angry lyrics set to sexually suggestive music videos is all it takes to make a fortune in the music industry. Forget talent. Forget art. It's all about titillation and controversy.

But you're right. If the "artists" who performed at Live 8 all contributed money to that particular cause, maybe I would have a little more respect for them. They don't want to lead by example when they can shove their fingers into our faces while the media falls all over them in admiration for working for "a cause".

The marquees above the Live 8 stages said it all -- "Justice, not charity."

Like all good socialists, they don't think they have to spend their money when they can force governments to rape the taxpayers again and again and again.
