Bush certainly has learned these lessons but so have we. Prior SCOTUS nominees had to go through a Democrat Senate until Clinton faced Republicans in the 90's. President Bush will have a benefit other Republican presidents didn't have: a Republican Senate.

President Bush will have a benefit other Republican presidents didn't have: a Republican Senate. He has one other major benefit: Boyden Gray is heading up the public confirmation campaign. He isn't a snarling pit bull who will attack the Dems head on, but the public will appreciate his dignified demeanor.

While that is true Morgan the post above you paints an ominous picture.
My fear is that no matter who GW puts forward something major will be wrong with the candidate according to the rats. How this will all end is a mystery to me.
There are theories going around that without a near or majority with the supremes the rats will go nuts. They have successfully trained some supreme justices how to "spin" cases instead of interpreting the constitution, a very dangerous path IMHO.
This entire process will be very interesting and probably entertaining as well. It needs to end well since there is a lot at stake.
