The more I see and read about this man, the more I want him on the Supreme Court.

In addition to his conservative credentials, I like the fact Luttig is only 51.
To: ConservativeMan55
plus, he's only 51 so he might be there 30 years!

He helped bring down Anita Hill? You know the fully segregated, step-n-fetchit, colored only Congressional Black Caucus will oppose him for that reason, alone. And, if the CBC opposes him, the Senate dems will weigh their words heavily. On the other hand, the Senate dems may ignore the vlacks as they always do, knowing they'll get 90+% of the black vote no matter what.

Any negative/controversial press on him? Would he have a chance of getting through?

I like that he has good credentials, a good outlook, and is only 51.

Wait...wait. LET'S NOT get the cart before the HORSE. First we have to go ASK Senator Ted Kennedy if we have his permission to promote this as an option.

Well one thing for sure we know how he will stand on POS juvenile car jackers. Now if Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg and Breyer would hurry up and choke on their food we can clean out the prisons of some juvenile scum.

Michael Luttig would be an awesome choice. He is a brilliant legal mind. However, this may not be the right time to appoint him.
William Rehnquest will be stepping down before long. When that happens, the logical thing to do is elevate Antonin Scalia to Chief Justice and Luttig to succeed Scalia as Associate Justice. But with O'Conner retiring, someone with less of a paper trail would be a better choice, given the political realities.

Actually, my choice for the SCOTUS would be Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). Now, now, before you spray the beverage of your choice through your nose and onto your screen or tangle your fingers in haste to respond to my recommendation, hear me out:
1. MOVEONpac.org, already has commercials claiming President Bush will be choosing an extreme candidate for the court. This is in their Schaivo commercial, it would provide some serious egg on their collective faces.
2. The Democrats would have to sit on their hands and let her pass, while the Republicans would be forced to put her feet to the fire and actually earn their partisan pay. When she is voted down, the Democrats will be forced into a position of NOT being able to filibuster an ultra-conservative follow-up nominee.
3. The vetting and hearing process for SCOTUS nominee Clinton would make her damage goods for her Senate campaign and presidential campaign. It would be a hat trick if it caused her to resign her Senate seat.
I call it Win/Win/Win.

nah. Too white and too male. As much as I love Dubya he will predictably pick a minority for this slot - most likely hispanic. Not saying its right and Michael would be a great choice. But I give up on these deals and just bend over and say thanks, may I please have another.

Luttig, Jones, Brown. All three are originalists, if I have gathered my facts correctly.
Luttig seems to be the best "scholar", again, if I have gathered my facts correctly.
Any of the three would be fine with me.
If it is Mel Martinez or some other liberal, we need to march on Washington and shut the place down.
