O'Connor was the Goldwater choice for the court. Jerry Falwell and Howard Phillips warned that she was no conservative. Goldwater said that Reverend Falwell needed a "good swift kick in the ___." Falwell and Phillips were right, and Goldwater was wrong!

Yep, it's becoming an increasing problem. That's why I think we should change the rules (or amend the constitution) where judges will have a strict 20 years term. That's it.
It wasn't supposed to be this way in the past, and Supreme Court judges had other responsiblities and usually they retired by the time they were 66.

Yea, some think that Goldwater's creeping liberalism was a result of a lack of religious faith. His funeral in 1998 was mostly devoid of religious symbols.
