The Rove Factor? Time magazine talked to Bush's guru for Plame story.
By Michael Isikoff Newsweek July 11 issue - Its legal appeals exhausted, Time magazine agreed last week to turn over reporter Matthew Cooper's e-mails and computer notes to a special prosecutor investigating the leak of an undercover CIA agent's identity. The case has been the subject of press controversy for two years. Saying "we are not above the law," Time Inc. Editor in Chief Norman Pearlstine decided to comply with a grand-jury subpoena to turn over documents related to the leak. But Cooper (and a New York Times reporter, Judith Miller) is still refusing to testify and faces jail this week.
At issue is the story of a CIA-sponsored trip taken by former ambassador (and White House critic) Joseph Wilson to investigate reports that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium from the African country of Niger. "Some government officials have noted to Time in interviews... that Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, is a CIA official who monitors the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction," said Cooper's July 2003 Time online article.
Now the story may be about to take another turn. The e-mails surrendered by Time Inc., which are largely between Cooper and his editors, show that one of Cooper's sources was White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove, according to two lawyers who asked not to be identified because they are representing witnesses sympathetic to the White House. Cooper and a Time spokeswoman declined to comment. But in an interview with NEWSWEEK, Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, confirmed that Rove had been interviewed by Cooper for the article. It is unclear, however, what passed between Cooper and Rove.

These lawyers know nothing unless they are lawyers for the other Time reporters that shared credit with Cooper on the two articles.
The key is whether the talk came before or after Novak's article. We know Libby "told" some reporters about Plame before Novak's article. However, so far we know that he knew because other reporters told him.
As for Rove, I doubt it, because if he said the name "Plame" before the Novak article, this would be clearly stated. The subpena for Cooper specifies the information sought is that which arose before the Novak article. Cooper may have contacted Rove afterward-and other people too.
Wilson himself conceded there may be no wrongdoing before the Novak article, but said investigation should be about the attacks on him afterwards. Expect the Dem/MSM spin to go that way, ignoring way Plame's name was mentioned earlier.
Someone should post this at the DUmp.
They are gonna be so pissed when this firecracker turns out to be another dud
They are all having orgasms over there ..... this will just be another let-down. The number of Prozac perscriptions is about to jump.
Isikoff has the credibility of a cashier caught stealing from the till, but allowed to keep his job.
O'Donnell lost his credibility when he lost "it" in front of America.
"In early October 2003, NEWSWEEK reported that immediately after Novak's column appeared in July, Rove called MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews and told him that Wilson's wife was "fair game." "
This is a scoop? Newsweek is being coy. This was reported by Wilson himself. He said Matthews called him and told him this story about Rove.
You're exactly right.
Karl Rove can have those MSM pencil-necked geeks for breakfast any time he wants to. I think he really enjoys twisting their tails in a knot because it is so much fun watching those pukes crash and burn!! I wouldn't give you two hoots in hell for Wilson or his old lady. What a crock of you-know-what they both are.
Quick - we need Sandy Berger to retrive those nasty eMails.
But Cooper (and a New York Times reporter, Judith Miller) is still refusing to testify and faces jail this week.
This appears to absolve Rove of any wrong doing.
It dose seem to absolve him if you think about it. Why would the two face jail time when it was Rove and he was already outed? The only reason they would face jail time now, is if it wasn't Rove and they are protecting the true source.
Not only that, but the article clearly states that ONE of the sources implicated in the Emails was Rove. Who are the other sources? They are clearly hiding something.
On Daily Kos they're saying Cheney and/or Bolton are implicated. The Left is throwing mud everywhere and hoping something will stick.
That's even more dumb. Why would Newsweek salivatate over Rove if it was Cheney or Bolton?
Speaking of ugly owls, how is Helen Thomas doing these days? Man, talk about ugly.....
She's so ugly, she has to sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink.
I think Rove should sue O'Donnell for slander / defamation of character. O'Donnell would wet himself in fear.
Oh wow! The bastard OM sharks smell the blood on the water! This doesn't look good! If Rove even had a smidgen to do with this, his goose is cooked. The presstitutes will cover for the BIG FISH snitch and lay it on heavy for ROVE 24/7 till kingdom come....:(
I don't know, I'm pretty nervous about this. This doesn't look good for Rove. And if it turns out that he testified not having a role in the leak, then he could face a perjury charge. The alleged calls from AF1 make me particularly fearful that this lands pretty close to the President who specifically told the media he didn't know if the leaker would ever be found.
DemocRATS have been looking for anything to stir up public interest in the Downing Street memos and their cries that the White House "fixed" intelligence to go into Iraq. Plame's role in the CIA investigating proliferation of WMDs could provide a way for the media to tie it all together.
I really hope Joe Wilson doesn't get his wish that Rove gets "frogmarched out of Washington in handcuffs." This weeks media frenzy should be sickening, but I really am very concerned about Rove here.
I really suspect had Rove been the source of the leak some MSM type would have gotten wind of it and reported it before the election.
Another piece of doodoo from Murder Isakoff.
