"We were effective in the 70s, and we're effective now," Dempsey said. "But there has been a backlash. Most young women don't know about NOW these days. If NOW is visible and relevant where they (young members) live, that's what makes NOW powerful."
Backlash? Irrelevancy? You bet. A result brought about in great part by the fact that NOW said NOTHING critical of President Clinton when it was revealed he was having sexual relations with 'that woman' (his much younger, barely over 18 employee/intern). And that's not to mention Ms. Broddrick, Ms. Jones, Ms. Willey, etc...
In fact, NOW defended Clinton to the nation, basically saying what he did 'wasn't so bad'. So much for standing up for women everywhere!
In other words, if NOW had principles to stand for their beliefs in EVERY situation, they might still be relevant. Now they are just another political lobbying group, picking and choosing based on political affiliation instead of principle. Can you say anachronism?
P.S. Janice Rogers Brown for Supreme Court Justice!!!
Very well put! You're exactly right.
P.S. Janice Rogers Brown for Supreme Court Justice!!!
I'll second that. She would make a good one!
