Taiwan: Fingerprinting Chinese to Start in the Middle of This Month

Taiwan would introduce the measure to fingerprint Chinese to virtually restrict their travel, starting possibly in the middle of this month.

According to June 30th report of Hong Kong's Feng-huang TV, which quotes Taiwanese Media, Taiwan's Interior Ministry submitted the report titled, 'The Essential Points on the Project of Fingerprinting Chinese,' at the "Mainland Committee," which is in charge of Chinese affairs on June 28.

The fingerprinting is apparently aimed at the improved monitoring of Chinese, and curbing illegal activities of Chinese in Taiwan.

Liu De-xun, the vice manager of the Mainland Committee said, "Recently the cross-strait activities are on the rapid increase, and not a few Chinese are coming to Taiwan using forged identity, which demands our monitoring. The Fingerprinting would be put into practice as soon as possible, after the middle of this month when all required facilities are put into place."

However, this might be construed as a move toward Taiwan independence, and possible violation of human right, which could prompt Chinese opposition.

News to me. There has been talk of incoporating some kind of fingerprint technology in a proposed I.D.Card but nothing specific has been put into law as far as I know. And my wife would be prety quick to tell me (complain) if it was doing to happen.

Consider the source.

I'm surprised they allow them into the country at all.

This is a good idea, though. Taiwan should use more humiliating measures like this to remind the Chinese that Taiwan is a separate country and the Chinese are not to be trusted.
