LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Legalizing more immigrants would help bolster the Social Security system, former President Bill Clinton told the nation's largest Hispanic-rights organization Friday.
"Those of you who want immigration reform should use Social Security more," Clinton said to about 1,300 members of the League of United Latin American Citizens. "If we legalize just 250,000 more immigrants a year, it would solve half of the shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund."
More legalized immigrants would put more young people in the system to help support the deluge of baby boomer retirees, Clinton said.
During his 48-minute speech, Clinton didn't mention President Bush's plan to privatize some Social Security accounts, but he did criticize the administration indirectly.
Clinton said Hispanics experienced economic and educational gains under his presidency, but have since faltered, and it was time to figure out "where do we go from here?"
Clinton was greeted by an extended standing ovation and cries of "Viva Clinton!" to which he replied, "You need to calm down. Otherwise, I might think I'm president again."
Also Friday, Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean and his GOP counterpart, Ken Mehlman, both spoke before the league convention.
Dean said he would make sure Democrats do more to include Hispanics in state party systems, particularly in Texas.
"In Texas, I don't think there are more than one or two Hispanics in the employ of the state party; that will change and it will change dramatically," Dean said. "We will change our party, but not what we believe in. But we need your help."
Mehlman said President Bush has put more Hispanics in key leadership positions than Clinton, and the GOP exceeded its expectations among Hispanics in the 2004 presidential election. Bush claimed more than 40 percent of the Hispanic vote, according to Associated Press exit polls.

I was lying here last night in bed, pondering the Presidency and how many of the 20th Century's office occupants had some record of military service, and FRankly, he is about the only one, outside of Wilson and maybe another possibly, that came to mind as having avoided military service yet had such an impact on this nation's conduct and capabilities and exercises thereof when entrusted with the keys to the kingdom, so to speak..
He is, without doubt, the most dismal failure of a POTUS, perhaps in all this nation's history. A leech , a parasite, an abomination.
His passing will not come soon enough and will not even begin to make up for all his failings and the disgrace he continues to display with his crap-eating smirk in the presence of his admirer and detractors.
Put the Senators and Congressmen back on Social Security, that's the first step to fixing it. I just don't understand why they're not on it, do they consider themselves too prestigious to be on America's retirement plan? Soldiers have to train like hell and they're paid McDonalds wages, and why? Because it's one of the highest honors to serve in the United States Armed Forces. The life of a career politician is basically the exact opposite, not many expectations with power and privilege. Your last name plays a bigger role than most would admit, and keeping your seat is simply a matter of saying the right things to your constituents. Social Security is busted because Washington is full of Donkeys and Elephants, what we need are Tigers.
Go to www.factcheck.org. They did an analysis of increasing immigrants to solve Social Securities shortfalls. This idea was actually proposed by one of the columnists for the NY Times. Legalizing illegal immigrants will just kick the implosion date further out, it will not solve the solvancy problem.

His idea is nothing more than putting a band-aid on a tumor. Anyone who attended this speech probably didn't give a hoot in hell that the illegals are already milking SS dry.
Bill and Hillary's Plan for Immigration Reform:
Step 1: Legalize illegals that will vote for Hillary.
Step 2: Deport illegals that will vote for the Republican.
Step 3: Take over the country, and hope that patriotic conservatives leave in disgust.

Great point.. we abort about 1 million babies a year. Although, I welcome young hispanics or others who want to come to America and pursue their dreams. So I agree with the 250,000.. except I'd make all the increase foreign degree holders if possible.
And the real goal shouldn't be saving social security.. it should be providing for those who have paid in to a reasonable level, as we phase it out:).
I think that just about covers it. The very party that started SS has now through their support of various abortion "rights" legislation, almost completed the circle by killing off the solution to the program. One million per year times 33 years is only 33 million paying in that aren't there today, but since Bill thinks just 250,000 illegals would solve half the problem, what would one million legals do?
On the other hand, if legalized abortion has been on the books just 33 years, we would have to modify the numbers slightly to account for the fact that most would not be adult earners for the first twenty years. This means only 13 years of lost numbers amounting to 13 million additions to the program, and an additional million per year as time passes. The numbers still would be sufficient for Bill's program.
On the other hand, neither his numbers or mine are reality. The program is broken and needs fixing now, not with the dream of unaborted abortions, or with legal illegals fixing what is broken. We need to do what the President of the United States wants the congress to do, which is get over it Bill is not the President, and his ideas aren't any better than mine at the moment.
