In a short version and not verbatim:
They will no longer approve the import certificates for "non-sporting" rifle barrels and receivers. This will stop new approvals of kits in the way that most have been coming in. The barrels will not be allowed, so this means that in the future the barrels will be made in the USA = big price increases. In some cases of rare MG Kits, the set up and mfg of a US barrel will not be feasible thus stopping most of the demand. AK guns and kits will go up if this has the affect. Companys were warned that they can not replace there kits today for what they are selling them for. Meaning what is already here cannot be brought back over unless someone is willing to make the American made barrel for the kit. Here we go again.
They have ALLOWED the import of "parts kits" (all parts for a gun / rifle with the receiver tourch cut in three pieces) to be imported. Now they have decided they these are non-sporting...
I alway thought anything the could put a hole in a target of kill a critter was a sporting firearm, but then common sence insn't common...
Someone in the Democratic party, probably someone with a name that rhymes with fine swine, must be twisting the screws.
I wonder if AG "AWB" Gonzalez had anything to do with this.

I thought it was interesting that he picked a company which primarily makes guns. Actually they made some interesting .45's but thanks to Jr. we no longer have the option of choosing them.

I thought the Chinese/Norinco ban originated with Clinton.
Also, IIRC, the '91 (or thereabouts) semi-auto import ban was, as in this case, simply the BATF exercising the authority granted it under the '68 GCA. At the time, the domestic firearms manufacturers were *lobbying* for the import restrictions, I remember reading their complaints in the trade publications. Plenty of blame to go around, sadly.

I loathe the bastard - but I'm starting to wonder in retrospect what damage a President Kerry would have done that President Bush isn't already doing.
RKBA, CAFTA, LOST, money and training to Palestinian terrorists, open borders, funding China's re-armament, and probably a liberal USSCJ nominee to boot.
It's pretty nightmarish when you put it into that kind of perspective.
Maybe Clinton banned some guns and Bush banned the rest.
We just didn't have a choice.

Me too, and I volunteered for his campaign for a year, as well.
Still, I hoped that in his 2nd term he would have shown more gonads.
I try to keep up as much as possible on exactly what's legal and what isn't. To my knowledge "section 922?" is still in effect even though the psuedo-assault weapon ban has expired. If you do much of anything with an import you are likely to run afoul of someone's decree eventually.
In my opinion, this confusion is intentional. We are being conditioned to accept our lords' {small L} commands regarding our freedoms. Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they knew we "allow" government to regulate our muskets.
We need to work on repealing the 1968 GCA and 1934 NFA, and take the F out of ATF.
The beer in my fridge, the smokes in my neighbors shirt, and the guns in my cabinet don't need to be regulated, period.
I agree, they don't. And for the guns in the cabinet, I think the best way to de-regulate them is through repeal of the GCA and the NFA.
For tobacco and alcohol, I would very much like to see the government out of those two businesses. I don't know how we can bring that about, but I am willing to support proposals that take us that way.
