Re#12 I want Estrada too. Not just because of the political side. He is young, conservative, bright and will be a great justice. That the Dems will go even crazier is the cherry on top...

Echo that sentiment.
Add this...Estrada's strong intellect..combined with Scalia and Thomas would be a ticking time bomb for liberalism.
Finally...as a once poor but legal immigrant who barely spoke English...Estrada serves as a role model to Hispanics to show that you don't need special government handouts and concessions and amnesty bills to come here..as a LEGAL immigrant....and make your mark based on your own hard work and ability.

Which Hispanic has a knowledge of the Constitution and loyalty to America sufficient to be a Supreme Court Justice?
Miguel Estrada. He came to America from Cuba as a teenager & worked his a** off to get to where he is today.
To: hispanichoosier
Estrada came from Nicaragua.

"I will leave it [the US Supreme Court] with enormous respect for the integrity of the court and its role under our constitutional structure." Respect for the integrity of rule by judicial oligarchs? Respect for the role these oligarchs have in undermining our Constitution? Buh bye, Sandy, and good riddance. Please take John McCain back to Arizona with you.

as a replacement for Scalia or Thomas when they get bumped up for Chief.
What makes you think that will be the case?.... History tells us differently and President Bush is a traditionalist to a large degree but does march to his on drummer.

Yeah, you're right. My bad.

I didnt say that was traditional, or was a done deal ..I meant that IMO, that was the best possible choice to replace Rehnquist....my preference.
Who do you favor to replace Rehnquist?

I don't..... But I suspect the President will select someone other than an Associate Justice to move into the position..

Indeed. I also think that the fact that Bush is now finding a replacement for O'Conner, and not Renquist as originally thought, that it will also change his strategy for whom he chooses. He will be more inclined to replace a woman with a woman, knowing that that he will also definitely have another shot when CJ William does finally resign.

The nation also deserves a dignified process of confirmation in the United States Senate, characterized by fair treatment, a fair hearing and a fair vote. And I'm sure Harry Reid and company will demonstrate this fairness as always.
