There's some talk about waiting for a while, because Congress will go into Summer recess soon and any nominee will be sitting out there like a pinata for months before the hearings and voting begin. On the other hand, you many want to get the name out there so the opposition fires their guns prematurely and the dust has time to settle.
Regardless, he doesn't need to do anything today. He has multiple names (primary + backups)...he'll announce the person when he's ready.
