Don't be ridiculous. We will easily win. Once the government begins to go after churches it will lose its legitimacy and will fall.

_____
What gives you evidence that this will be true? Or even partly true? The government has usurped the Churches legitimate role in public life. (Charity, education, healthcare) Why do you think that the government cannot overstep here?

What is the "human rights tribunal"? Who is issuing and enforcing these fines? I haven't heard much about what's happening in Maine, but as the old saying about elections says, if Maine goes the nation will be next.

This article occurred in Vermont.

Maine has a Human Rights Commission. I think they are networked nationwide, by state.

Maine Human Rights Commission

THE COMMISSION

Mission Statement Complaint Policy Organizational Chart

The Maine Human Rights Commission is the State agency charged with the responsibility of enforcing Maine’s anti-discrimination laws. The Commission investigates complaints of unlawful discrimination in employment, housing, education, access to public accommodations, extension of credit, and offensive names. The Commission attempts to resolve complaints of discrimination to the mutual satisfaction of those who are involved. The Maine Human Rights Act authorizes the Commission to pursue remedies for unlawful discrimination in Court when necessary to enforce the Act.

The Commission was established in 1971. Commission policy is formulated by five Commissioners appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate for staggered five year terms. The Governor designates the Chair of the Commission from among its members. Commissioners make the final finding on all charges of discrimination investigated by the Commission staff and not settled or administratively dismissed.

The Commission appoints an Executive Director. The Executive Director in turn has the authority to appoint and supervise the Commission’s staff.

The Commission enters into agreements with Federal Partners when appropriate to promote cooperation, avoid duplication, and work towards eliminating discrimination.

Jim said he did not refuse Parker's request

Not refusing is not agreeeing. I think the man tried to be diplomatic.

We wouldn't easily win, most people are programmed now into thinking that when there is an ugly confrontation it is the uncompromising Bible thumper that is the problem.

This is exactly why we will lose.

Wow...I know these people! Nice family, and very active in the church locally. I hadn't heard about this suit. I hope they're able to come through this and stand firm.

Do they need help or a supportive word?

It's moral rape.

This is just the beginning of the debacle.

Homosexuals, who are less than 1% of the population, cannot oppress the rest of society without the consent and cooperation of others.

Homesexuals are the most powerful group in the United States. Think about it. Think About how far they have come in just ohhh, 10 years.

I wonder why?

Totalitarian regimes almost always go after the churches first, from the French Revolution to the Russian Revolution. This is because the Church stands in the way of state power

The New Nazi is totalitarian. That is what we are facing.

They aren't powerful at all. The only reason they have made such gains is because people let them. A vocal minority can get what it wants if it is passionate about something and the majority is lethargic. But when they overreach, there is a backlash.

Of all the crises that Christianity has faced, from its early suppression, wars, suppression under the communists, etc., do you really think it's going to be the gay lobby that brings it down? Come on.

Maybe this will alleviate your pessimism. Things will get worse and ugly, but somehow things will work out. That is why we are to have faith and not to fear, as John Paul II said. It is to be expected that the church will suffer again, as it has periodically over the centuries. We are living in a relativistic, culturally Marxist era. But it is an intellectual fad, an articificial construct, that cannot provide happiness and is not self-sustaining. This article is by Murray Rothbard about Etienne de la Boetie, and it deals with consent and legitimacy.

That's right. They should give up their home, family and way of life to placate the practitioners of a disease ridden perversion.

You make it sound like a trip to the grocery store. Why should these people be burdened with the hardship of uprooting and starting all over because they have morals?

I'd just keep them in your prayers. I'm hesitant to give out names, and they're well liked in the community...likely they have a good chance against this.

What bothers me, though I'm not sure why it should, is that I think I know Ms. Parker's partner, too. It's a small world up there...

If we don't get conservative appointments through, there won't be much left to really defend after this term,

If something isn't done about judicial fascism, in a decade or so our elections will be about as "free and open" as the ones in a third world dictatorship.

Homosexual Agenda + Moral Absolutes Ping/Two-fer.

It's obvious that the lesbian [activists] are intentionally targeting this inn, run by a Catholic family, in order to push the "gay" agenda. IOW, it's another glaring example of the truth that homosexual activists are NOT content to live their lives peacefully. They have the attitude of a conquering army. They will tolerate no dissent, no disagreement, they want total surrender on our part.

Freepmail me if you want on/off either pinglist.

Note: I pung the Moral Absolutes list because I think you can see where this is going. Acceptance of (promotion and mandatory service to) the "gay" agenda is the keystone in the dismantling of all universal moral absolutes. You think that if the "gay" activists get everything they want (and this DOES include mandatory gay sex-ed in every school in the US) you think they'll leave it at that?

Every religion which teaches traditional moral absolutes is in their sights.

Hate crimes, hate speech, hate thought. Inter-generation sex. What's next?

So this family should just sell their property and move to another state because a lesbian activist targeted them.

In other words, in your world view homosexual activists can order everyone else around and make us dance to your tune, sell our home and our livelihood, move to another state, and so on.

What kind of conservative viewpoint is that?

I took about 5 minutes and read almost every comment you've posted on FR since you signed up and in almost every instance you support that which is not conservative in any respect.

It was Lenin, IIRC, who advised incipient revolutionaries to foment societal breakdown, since a broken anarchic society is ripe for communist revolution. He was very specific in promoting homosexuality, divorce, promiscuity, and all manner of social disruption. Easier to take over a broken society.

I am not a conspiracy prone person. But facts is facts. And there are foundations and vastly wealthy individuals who are not homosexual who are funding and promoting this. As well as feminazim and other social ills. Soros puts tremendous amounts of money into the "medical marijuana" scam in many states.

Stoned people will be easy to manipulate.
