I think the media has been trying to compare the wrong guy.
The man in the far right of the picture with the hostage looks more like the new Iranian president. The media has been focusing on the guy holding the hostages arm.

I think six Americans held hostage 400+ days had time to sear this guy's face into their memories. If they say he was one of the torture interrogators, it's good enough for me.
The Jewish concentration inmates recalled camp guards and others at the camps who tortured them 50+ years ago. In Bosnia and Serbia, the war criminals were ID'd some years later and we believed them. Russian gulag inmates recall the bad guys. Why the reluctance to believe Americans who were hostages???
