Forced integration is a terrible policy...if someone wants to live only with people of the same race (or the same political leanings...or the same income level...or the same ethnicity)...and they are able to do so...so what?
Wanting to live among people of your own race is nothing new...its human nature...its really animal nature as, to every animal (including humans), there is an instinctive sense that similarity means safety.
So long as the government is not preventing people from living where they want...every person should have the right to decide themselves where and with whom they live...who they associate with, who they hire, etc.
It is voluntariness of human association and separation – the absence of any form of forced integration – that makes peaceful coexistence between culturally, racially, ethnically, or religiously distinct people possible

And this new wave of carpetbaggin, thievin yankees is wuss than their burning, raping, pillaging ancestors that followed Sherman, including the post war reconstruction bunch, who were some of the vilest sub-humans on the planet.
My homeland is being ruined by the damn yankees and I let them know every chance that I get.
That was the first thing that went though my mind: this is about neigbhorhood schools.

Every southerner I've had the pleasure of doing business with has been polite to a fault! Though I'm glad I understand what it means when a Southerner says "Bless your heart darlin'".
Is that a promise?
You think that you can persuade a few of your butthole buddies into going back north?
It is not "racism" that drives these folks to act as they do, but rational fear based on pretty much everything they've experienced, seen or heard.
If the schools in the South are both integrated AND educationally viable, let them show off their demographic and test scores.

Spoken, no doubt, by a Yankee who doesn't remember WHO it was that wouldn't integrate THEIR schools for years!
There's different types of politeness.
I find that northeasterners, particular from the cities, are very direct and up-front with you and expect clear communication, no messing around. This comes across as rudeness to people who grew up in the South, even though it's based on respect and directness. Unfortunate misunderstanding but understandable.
I find that southerners always start out very polite and preserve many of the niceties of conversation, but they can shed that veneer very quickly if they feel they have to.
People are people and no one's above anger. Although people from parts of the Midwest come pretty damn close to sainthood, IME.

And I suspect, after reading this, that the "rules" are about to be changed again!
Depends, do you consider Florida the South or are you willing to concede it has become a suburb of New York?! :-D

The wars at our high school were not pretty. There were fights, rock throwing, name calling, injuries on both sides of the events. I saw a 17 year old white kid, a promising young football player, swing at a black kid, miss him, and his arm go through a plate glass window and cut his right arm to pieces, ending his football career and damaging his body for life. People were doing stupid things.
My father worked with blacks. He worked in a shop where there were black men employed. He never had a problem with blacks. He and my mother told me to go to school to learn, keep my mouth shut, stay out of those happenings at school. I did. I saw the dirty side of those fights up close though. It was sad to see people, some who were members of our church, fighting, screaming, yelling profanity, throwing rocks, bottles, sticks, and causing a riot because the did not want the school integrated. It was not a pretty sight.
The first group of black kids that came to our school were from the same family. They were all brothers and sisters. Their father was a black minister and a mover and shaker in the local NAACP. So, he used his own kids to be point for the integration of my high school. He did not use someone else's kids. He put his own blood on the firing line. The black kid in my homeroom was named Albert. My homeroom teacher assigned me to take him around and show him where everything was. This was my 9th grade year. Later that day, my name was plastered on the walls of the rest rooms as being a "N" lover simply because I showed this kid where the lunch room was, the bath rooms, where to go to gym class.
It was not a pretty sight watching what those kids went through. I don't wish that kind of hell on anyone. How those kids hung in and got through it was amazing. Albert graduated 4 years later with me. He had a couple of sisters who graduated before him. Now days, my old high school is about 60-70% black. Most of the whites moved away from the area as they graduated from high school and moved on.
Because of all the crap in the neighborhood around there now, there is an 8 foot tall fence around the school, with those three strands of barbed wire on top. Sad.
Just from Palm Beach County to Miami is a suburb of NY. Middle and northern Florida is as cracker as ever.
I'll be d#mned. Most racist and hateful people I've ever met in my life are the bunch of yankees that have infested this state. They can take their 'army of liberation', get on I-95 and drive right back north of Virginia. Try the schools up there.
Charlotte is constantly flogging itself over race.
One thing the story didn't mention, was that by the time I moved from there in 1995, the black parents were just as sick of the busing as the white parents. Everyone just wanted to go to neighborhood schools.
Heaven forbid.
Why, I was 18 years old before I knew that damn Yankee was more than one word....
