Attorneys seek removal of monument

Attorneys with the Lubbock Criminal Defense Lawyers Association are threatening legal action if a victims' rights monument on the lawn of the county courthouse is not removed.

(snip)

The granite monument which reads, "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are," was erected April 11 by several victims' advocacy groups.

"There can't be anything for victims on the courthouse lawn," Griffin said in the meeting. "The courthouse is for justice."

Metze said in the meeting that having a monument on the courthouse grounds gives the impression that the county favors a certain group.

Grace said it is not the job of the commissioners to make either side happy. "(The commissioners) want to come to a resolution to make the least amount of people unhappy," he said.

How does this monument show favoritism to any group? Every time I think things couldn't get more out of control, it does

Welcome to the status quo of our judicial system. It is not too hard to understand, when you realize the left panders to every facet of the judicial it can, since the judicial is their last big stand to grab absolute power in the U.S. -- they cannot do it any other way. Expect to see more of this insanity, such as that which sprays out of the ACLU almost daily....and now the SCOTUS almost daily --- socialist activism via the judiciary ---

We are moving from "freedom FROM religion" into "freedom FROM offense".

These lawyers are a buch of socialists because if they were SMART they would be demanding a "defendant" monument. Something about letting ten guilty go free than one innocent be convicted.

They think like socialists. They take, they don't build their own.

""There can't be anything for victims on the courthouse lawn," Griffin said in the meeting. "The courthouse is for justice." "

Justice is necessary BECAUSE there are victims.

The real problem is that it doesn't show special favoritism to the criminals and actually hints at the responsibility required for one's actions...

Soon we won't even be able to have a courthouse on courthouse grounds. Just as well. They don't pay taxes. We need to tear down all those old buildings a put something there that will raise some revenue.

you know, last night i attended a free republic meeting, and we said the pledge of allegence.

the thought crossed my mind as we said "...and with liberty and justice for all"

why do we need multiculturalism? it's all there, in the pledge.

Yes...ancestors came to TX on the Ben Nevis w/ Pastor Killian. Grandparents migrated to the South Plains in the 20's for the cheap farmland. When I was a kid we'd go to Serbin-Giddings-Manheim-Thorndale for funerals, reunions and church anniversaries, but I haven't been back in 30+ yrs. Daughter just moved to Austin so I hope to pay a visit to Lee County soon.
