Americans held in the 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Iran said yesterday they clearly recall Iranian President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad playing a central role in the takeover, interrogating captives and demanding harsher treatment for the hostages.

"As soon as I saw his picture in the paper, I knew that was the bastard," said retired Army Col. Charles Scott, 73, a former hostage who lives in Jonesboro, Ga.

"He was one of the top two or three leaders," Col. Scott said in a telephone interview. "The new president of Iran is a terrorist."

Well, that about does it. Iran should be on the Human Rights Commission for the UN.

Certainly Biometrics could establish his innocence, even if it could not necessarily establish his guilt. But I doubt that the "journalists" in the MSM will bother to go to that much trouble. The only "hard-liners" they worry about are in the Bush Administation, and they wouldn't want to give them any ammunition that might justify a confrontational approach to this guy.

He's probably the same guy. However, how on earth will biometrics do anything? Do you think you're going to get a fingerprint from the guy in the photo from the 70's? Retinal scan?

I was thinking along the lines of measuring the relative distance from his lower lip to his chin, the relative size and shape of his ears and eyes, and comparing them to the photographs of the suspect hostage taker. If there were substantive differences in those variables, it could establish that he was probably not the man the former hostages believe him to be.

This is a shocking story, if true. FNC has been all over it this morning.

Ah...the facial recognition technology. You may have something there. Although I understand it's a little harder with men who have beards.
