People like that have no interest whatsoever in exchanging ideas. What they want is to be listened to. It's all they want. You are to listen and nod, listen and nod, listen and nod. Once they've exhausted themselves, the best response is, "Okay, thank you."

Because that is all they will let you say. If you even begin with, "Alright, let's start with what you said about Israel. Do you really think--" and that is as far as you get before they start in again. They are operating at the level of 12 year olds, who want to spout and question but don't want to hear any answers. All they want is a set of eyes looking at them while they talk.
