The angled dck was a development of the jet age. The Shinano was built during the Second World War and sunk in port before her maiden voyage.

No angled deck?

The angled deck appeared in the '50s. The British were the first to employ it and I think the first US carrier to be built with it was USS Forrestal.

...a Japanese WWII Carrier, the British had the idea (along w/ the steam catapult) after that war.. :P
