Well, I went through Signal Corps basic at Camp Gordon in 1951. Never was cursed, struck or even spoken to unkindly (except maybe by a cook or two during KP sessions). The meanest thing ever said to us by a DI was "I can see why you people are in the Signal Corps. There ain't a one of you here who could make it in the Infantry!"
