As we have said before ....... that noise is needless and wrong. If I were on the other side of the net, back in the 60's, I would have asked that she quiet herself or I would not play! But, that is not the case now!
Can you imagine Rod Laver or John Newcomb making those noises when playing back in the good old days?............. then ask yourself.............. doesn't all of this noise (grunting) have something to do with the "me" generation?
It's needless as you say, but that is what she was taught as a kid. I hate it myself.....so get over it. It's not her fault. It was the way she was taught............ and it is SICKENING!

I don't know about "wrong" but I disagree with needless. Most martial arts include a grunt or "kia" when striking or falling that tends to strengthen the core (torso) and focus energy into the strike. I don't see why the same wouldn't apply in tennis or any other sport.
