Maybe he really voted for Kerry before he voted for Bush ;-)
If I got this right, the last time he voted for a democrat was 1976 (carter) and before that he voted for Nixon twice.
I know he didn't vote for the clintons both times.
If thats a life long democrat, then the more of them the better.
That said, he cracked a joke, it was a bad joke, but it was a joke.
Kind of like Hillarys chances of winning the white house, funny, but not serious.
I heard a news story that said the "collections" (do they pass around a collections plate?) at this event was $3 million less then what they needed to break even.
I have fond memories of Billy Graham, but I could do without this partisan push, particularly for members of a party that are so blatantly anti-Christian (witness Howard Dean) and whose policies are inimical to moral decency.
You mean there still Democrats who are "white Christians"? They must be sadists.
This quote about Shrillary proves it's dogtrack time for Billy.
Any man who says a) that Slick Willie Clinton should be an evangelist, and b) Hillary should run the country is c) out of his mind, or d) a damn fool.
You said: "... I do have a problem with his lending credibility to a presidential run on Hillary's part."
Graham said: "... the former president should become an evangelist and allow 'his wife to run the country.'"
Hmmmm?? I'm not reading that as "lending credibility".
This was said when Clinton was President, and it was a joke. No biggie.
Let's just mark it down to senility, and let it go at that.
Well then he should not say he's a life long Democrat to KATY CORIC! Just because you are a democrat doesn't mean you HAVE to vote Democrat. I'm sure there were quite a few Democrats who voted for Bush. He's a Democrat I guess who votes with his head.
She won't use the tape in her campaign - it's obvious he was making a joke. And if she tries to twist it into something her campaign COULD use, I'm quite sure Franklin will have a few choice things to say about it. (Billy might too, if he's still around - but he'd be much more gentle about it.)
"I'd be unhappy if he told everyone to vote for her, but that's not even close to what he said."
Yes, a lot of FReepers wouldn't recognize class if it slapped them in the face. I suppose Rev Graham should have said, "Get away from me, you adulerous scumbag and take that whore of a wife with you!!"
Anything less is an endorsement to some FReepers, apparently.
I think you have concisely explained the problem. Recall that Barry Goldwater became noticeable less discerning in his old age.
It's time for him to retire - he's getting senile.
... into the ground.
Sometimes if you don't have anything truthful to say, you shouldn't say anything at all.
Lovers of liberty are fast running out of allies.
I agree. Billy Graham has a clear understanding that our welfare and future will not ultimately be determined by whether or not Hilary Clinton is elected president. Our future and well being is totally dependant on God. Billy knows where to place his faith. I wish that more of us could see that as clearly. As for me, I have been really working on trusting God more and worrying about politics less.
To me, Billy's remarks were purely a polite joke for two people who are tremendously popular with half of America. I am not ready to turn on the world's finest Evangelist because of what he said. He is a true man of God.
