Never saw the show, not even once.

The only problem is that real liberals aren't as funny, nor as interesting as the Seinfeld characters.

BUMP!
Seinfeld was as apolitical a show as I have ever seen.
The characters were too self-absorbed to give a rat's behind about politics. But I did think that the episode with Giuliani and the yogurt was hilarious.

Interesting. I'll have to read more.
Actually, I have thought that a show like Seinfeld - "the show about nothing" - seemed to fit in well with the general post-cold war/pre-September 11 mood. Nothing ominous hanging overhead. I wonder if such a show would be as likely to be a hit in the present atmosphere.
I dunno. I always liked Seinfeld. Maybe my post is too touchy-feels. The "thesis" has the smell of a graduate-school dissertation . . .

With the possible exception of Elaine, none of the characters would bother to go out and vote. Kramer would tell everyone to vote, but then forget to do so himself. Jerry and George just wouldn't care.

While occasional feints towards marriage were made (noticeably Georges relationship with Susan which ended in George killing her) That's not what happened in the show. This writer is not responsible.

Seinfeld is funny. He is funny because he makes fun of the worst in all of us. Nobody wants to live like the characters or be like the characters (miserable and lonely). And they all got their due in the final episode...

The face of the new DNC?
Hell, it would be a step up from Michael Moore and Jimmah Carter.

The show was funny because it was true. It was typical New York City, which abounds in just such farcical liberalism.

I only saw parts of one show, and that was because I was trapped on an airliner.
It made me want to open the window and take a walk on the wing!

The only character that was every even remotely political was Elaine. In a couple of episodes we saw that she was pro-abortion and anti-fur. In another episode she showed political correctness in being militantly anti-smoking. However, often, these views were used as straight lines for Jerry or George.
IMHO, during the good seasons, the show was the funniest ever on television. There were a few seasons where the writers got lazy and the show suffered.
Could it be that the Seinfeld liberal is simply someone who is totally selfish and self-absorbed - like the characters on the show?

Is it just me, or is there currently a popular trend to try to divine political overtones in everything these days?
Can't we just accept that not all shows have hidden agendas and enjoy them (or not) for what they are?
I for one don't want to just watch bland, neutral shows that have been deemed 'depoliticized for your protection'.
p.s. Wow. Depoliticized passed the spell checker. Who knew it was a real word?

I loved Seinfeld because it was totally un-pc. They didn't pick certain groups to make fun of, they made fun of everybody!

Perfect Seinfeld people would never bother to go to the trouble of actually reading the article, as obviously most posters on this thread didn't.
He wasn't talking about politics per se, but about a general attitude about life--eerily similar to that of many liberals.

The whole point of the show was that they were so self absorbed and shallow. I loved the show, but wouldn't want to be or know any of them in real life. I guess it was a Liberals Show!!

Maybe the Seinfeld characters realized something about themselves and swore off marriage for a reason. Yeah. They realized they didn't want to propogate their inferior genes.
