Russia's state prosecutor has ordered an examination of Shulhan Arukh - a code of Jewish halakhic law compiled in the 16th century - to ascertain whether it constitutes racist incitement and anti-Russian material. . . . Last Thursday, attorneys from the Russian State Prosecutor's Office questioned Rabbi Zinovy Kogan, chairman of the Congress of Jewish Organizations - one of the two large Jewish umbrella organizations in Russia. Kogan was asked to explain the contents of Shulhan Arukh, especially regarding its treatment of non-Jews. Jerusalem sources following the affair said this is the first time since Stalin's regime that Russian officials have described holy Jewish scriptures as prohibited incitement. . . . The state prosecutor's last move has increased Israel's concern for the Jews in Russia, following the recent increase in anti-Semitic incidents there. These incidents include attacks on Jews and damage to Jewish property. The inquiry was launched following a letter signed by 500 public figures, including some 20 members of the nationalist Rodina party, urging the state prosecutor to outlaw the Jewish religion and all the Jewish organizations operating in Russia. The prosecutor rejected requests of Jewish organizations to open an investigation into those who had initiated the letter. Rodina's leader, Dimitri Rogozin, sent a letter to Moscow Chief Rabbi Pinhas Goldschmidt over the weekend, criticizing the anti-Semitic displays in his party. "Theological sources cannot be subjected to judiciary procedures," he wrote. . . . Alexander Boroda, the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities told a Russian news agency: "We are shocked by the very examination. The fact that books from the 16th century, which have become part of Jewish heritage, are subject to investigation shows the short-sightedness of the state prosecutor's people."

I posted a story about a month ago about Russian prosecutor investigating a book of stories and poems by Pushkin because they were erotic - some one or some group saw this book for sale at a book store and filed a complaint. The prosecutor has no flexibility in the matter - his office has to investigate.

I am against all censorship - but this is a tale taken by the western press to illustrate that Putin is turning Russia into a police state. Just like in the USA when the FCC gets a complaint - the Russian authorities probably got a complaint and thus have to open an investigation.
Our own FCC for example had to investigate NBC's opening ceremonies of the Athens Olympics because some yahoos were offended by reproductions of naked Greek statues and writhing Greek dancers.
Someone probably purchased the book and read the following and called the authorities.
There is a disinfo campaign out there to turn people against Russia be bringing up old Cold War imagry like Pushkin is being banned or something.
Thanks for posting your idea that 1,000 Americans represent 35 million. You are an full on idiot. I do not respect you, nor will ever expect- any attitude change. Us simple minded nord scot's have a saying for folks like you- phucoff into your kocked jat azzjole...
Meaningless. I hope you are ok.
And yet I am sure you have never been to Russia and know next to nothing about her people, only what you have read on some bizarro website.
Thank you for not bothering to click on the link to see that I copied it directly from the link, and it was not my idea at all.
Are you posting US stateside, from your wormy heart?
"I am a Christian."
Have you ever read Jeremiah, one of my favorite books in the Bible? Jeremiah is a must for the Christian to know and understand.
You're fairly new here. I think you may benefit from reading the posting guidelines. They're on the front page.
It may not have been your idea, yet, posting such crap gave you no pause, or it did- and you posted this bs with kind regards- by any manner necessary.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Good luck in the future and enjoy your stay here.
Yep, I'm new to life, only started typing my feeble newbie thoughts- just the other day, after 50+ years of talking, walking and so changing the course of events- that you enjoy this fine day.
Treader and MarMema, don't play the DUmmie game. We're all on the same side, so let's not rip each other to shreds. And if someone posts deliberately provocative posts, we all know what to do. Tuck and rol-Wait. I mean, don't feed the trolls. In doing so you only make the DUmmies fatter and richer.
Whether you understand or not, I do and will... Thanks!
Btw, in Russia, they have a lot of freedoms we have lost.
Now, that is a news flash. The freedoms of the Russia/eastern europe are truly yours to go back to and relish on a bun.
There is plenty to do saving this country. Russia will be fine. They were wise enough to boot Soros and his friends out of the country.
You live under communist rule- here stateside? You are correct, there is nothing I can relate with you. Russia will not be fine, nor good to go. Soros was not booted- he was sent...
And thank God for that. I was in Tbilisi a few weeks ago, and am strongly considering retirement there. 90% of the people are Christian. When do you think that will happen here?
I could not care less, as to when Our United States would ever become 90% christian. I can only imagine that Tbilisi will be wonderful for you. Please go as soon as possible.
