They tell us there is no more communist government in our Homeland. We beg to differ.
G.M. Soldatow
Fascist regimes have crashed in Germany and Italy. The populations of these countries and their representative governments have broken all ties with their shameful past. In Germany, for instance, it is forbidden by law to disseminate and sell Nazi emblems, posters, photos, literature, songs, etc. Stores do not sell musical recordings, and the youth dos not hear, nor does it sing songs of the Hitler Youth. Streets, formerly bearing names of Hitler and other Nazi criminals have been renamed, their monuments have been removed. In schools during history lessons, their countrys past is portrayed as a black shameful stain on the German people. Also in Austria, there are neither city quarters, nor cities or towns or streets bearing names of Hitler, Eichman, Kaltenbrunner, Globocnik, Nowak or other Nazis of Austrian descent.
But in the RF, where they say that Communism no longer leads the government, the landscape differs dramatically. The government does not wish to break with its dark past. For some unfathomable reason, having named themselves something different, the new leaders carefully preserve the past of the Soviet Union: many monuments to the executioners continue to stand on their former pedestals, the mausoleum, as before, stands on Red Square, a whole list of cities has retained names of soviet hangmen-criminals and museums carefully guard their memory. The flags still carry stars/pentagrams. The flag of Moscow will not only portray St. George but next to him will appear the ribbons of the Lenin medal and the October Revolution, as well as medals of the Gold Star. The country will celebrate Communist holidays. Stalins hymn has been returned albeit with new words, as has been the red flag. To commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of the frightful CHEKA, as series of 6 postage stamps has been issued in the RF bearing portraits of the criminals most notorious within this horrible organization which destroyed hundreds of thousands of the best of Russians clergy, members of the intelligentsia, military and other so-called enemies. Under the influence of such propaganda concerning the soviet past, hearing of the greatness of the USSR in its military defense, the sciences, and space travel, it is no wonder the countrys youth sympathizes with Communism. The company Melodia distributes throughout the RF disks with pioneer songs containing Lenins Truth, Hello Morozov, Pioneer Friendship and other Soviet songs, applauding the Communist party. Young people sing these songs glorifying the Soviet system of government, pioneers and Komsomol.
MP does not react to the return to Communism occurring in the country and it does not protest against the government support to retain the Soviet influence on the people. Even in the seminaries and theological Academies, as in the past, reading rooms display such newspapers as The Komsomol Pravda and other publications which had soiled themselves with lies. Taking up such a position to the continuation of such conditions in the country, leadership of the MP, having lied to the entire world for over 70 years by insisting that in the USSR there is no persecution of the Church, remains as formerly, steadfast in its service of the government, not God, placing its sergianistic habits above the Churchs teachings and above the spiritual needs of the faithful. Having usurped the power in the land, the Communists used all means at their disposal in attempts to erase the memory of Russias past, thereby systematically destroying her spiritual and cultural treasures. The former Communists now call themselves other things, and in order to show off religious freedom in the RF, have allowed some rebuilding of monasteries and churches, remaining all the while themselves enemies of the Orthodox Church and of Russian nationalistic treasures. Not only have inhabitants of our Homeland spoken of this, but even the foreign press. Here is what the American magazine Parade, from Minneapolis, MN stated in its May 30, 2004 issue on p.18:
Moscow Meets The Bulldozers.
"In the last decade, more than 400 historic buildings in Russias capital have been leveled, including 60 that were protected by law from demolition. Some dated from the 1600s. Why are they coming down? Preservationists blame Yuri Luzhkov, Moscows mayor for the last 12 years. They cite the lure of high construction profits, plus greed and corruption in the government: The mayors wife owns a construction company with 11% of the contracts to build in Moscow. Not since Josef Stalin tore down large sections of the city for a rebuilding project in the 1930s have so many historic sites been lost. Residents have staged protests, but to no avail. And Luzhkov recently was re-elected."
The above mentioned is by far not everything. This is only a portion of that which the government of the RF is trying so carefully to safe keep in the memory of its people, of how to the foundations the old was destroyed, and then in its place we will build our new world..
And so they built it, initially a tragedy for Russia!
And so, from the above we do not see many changes in the country, and cannot imagine how it could be possible to even contemplate a unification of ROCOR with the MP or to collaborate with the government of the RF until such time as it renounces its ruinous for the Motherland past and begins to guard and protect Russian spiritual and cultural values.

I'm not Russian Orthodox, but the fact that they are resisting the ROC hierarchy, who were installed by the Communists, is a very good thing (regardless of your religious persuasion):
"Our common descent from Russian ancestors does not obligate us to submit ourselves to the Moscow Patriarch, especially since he and the major part of those who surround him were nominated by the Soviet government, hostile to Russia. And now they pretend that nothing out of the ordinary had occured, and that we have to submit to them. We have to emphatically decline this."

STALIN - THE FATHER OF THE BISHOP'S COUNCIL (SOBOR)
From the notes of G. Karpov, the former Presiding Officer of the Soviet (council) on issues regarding the Orthodox Church.
4.09.43 I was summoned by Comrade Stalin, where I was asked the following guestions:
a) who is Metropolitan Sergey (age, physical condition, his authority/prestige within the church, his relationship with the Authorities),
b) a brief opinion of Metropolitans Alexey and Nikolay,
c)when and how Patriarch Tikhon was elected,
d) what contact does the Russian Orthodox Church have with foreign countries,
e) who are the Ecumenical Patriarch, Patriarch of Jerusalem, and others,
f) what do I know of the leadership of the Orthodox Churches in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Romania,
g) what are the present material circumstances of Metropolitans Sergey, Alexey and Nikolay,
h) the number of parishes of Orthodox Churches in the USSR and the number in the Episcopate.
Afterwards, when I answered all the above questions, I was asked three questions of a personal nature:
1) am I Russian?
2) since what year am I in the Party?
3) what is my education and why I am familiar with church issues?
After this, Comrade Stalin said: - It is neccesary to create a special organ, which would be a liaison with the leadership of the Church. What suggestions do you have?

MAHMUD ABBAS CARRIES OUT PUTIN's ORDERS AGAINST THE ROCOR IN HEBRON AND JERICHO:
The process of unification of the Rusasian Orthodox church, personally launched by President Vladimir Putin on September 24, 2003, had its first serious slowdown. On the last day of January of this year, Patriarch Alexey II touched on a subject that the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) - with whom they are on the road to unification - finds exceedingly painful. In a meeting at the Danilov monastery with the new Palestinian leader, Mahmud Abbas, the Patriarch asked that the Russian Orthodox Convents in Hebron and Jericho be attached to the Moscow Patriarchate (MP). These two Convents, located in two biblical cities, had been taken from ROCOR in 1997 and 2000 respectively, with the use of excessive physical force. Acting in the interests of the Moscow Patriarchate, Palestinian soldiers and police had beaten up nuns and novices; whereas, the elderly Abbess Juliania's head was bashed against the steps of the Hebron cathedral.

"To commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of the frightful CHEKA, as series of 6 postage stamps has been issued in the RF bearing portraits of the criminals most notorious within this horrible organization which destroyed hundreds of thousands of the best of Russians clergy, members of the intelligentsia, military and other so-called enemies."
It hardly seems fair to expect Putin to not appreciate the CHEKA. He spent his whole life in, essentially, the same organization, and even headed it (known by then as the FSB.)
THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS (the extinguishing of the ROCOR):
Now the threat exists that either the MP will take these religious centers under its own leadership, or will play the main role in deciding what goes on there. Some of the holy places have already been taken away from ROCOR using brute force; the MP expects to take over others using legal means.
At the present time, in many monasteries, in the Synod book store and in parishes of ROCOR, items produced by the Moscow Patriarchate are distributed. Their published materials are not always suitable to the spiritual longings of those who left Russia or those who presently live there. The publications are saturated with non-Orthodox non-Russian traditions and spiritual values. They dont have that appeal to which the Russian faithful Abroad have been accustomed. Having been bred in a materialistic spirit, the spiritual leaders of the MP, unaware of it themselves, regress from leading people toward the salvation of their souls and preparation for the Afterlife, and instead lead the faithful toward creating a heaven on earth, exactly that which was promised by the Soviet system.
Now that the ROCOR Lavra distributes almost exclusively printed materials and handiwork from the republics of the former USSR and in particular from the MP, the MP will insure that the little distrubution that was supported with great effort here Abroad, will end. Private publishers and the few expatriate authors who sold their work on commission, can no longer do so. Hand crafted items are being replaced by cheap production, frequently of poor quality. In the Holy Land and in Jordanville, the Synod and the monastery choirs had created wonderful liturgical records, cassettes, and CDs for distribution in all the dioceses. The choir of the cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky in Paris, and many others, also produced their liturgical works. But nowadays in ROCOR there appear a great many others in great quantities. A case in point: in the April issue of this year of Orthodox Russia only products of the MP are advertised for sale.
And so, gradually, the cultural extinction of ROCOR is taking place. This is not even a self-liquidation, but unnoticed by many, it is a gradual replacement of key positions in ROCOR by those from the former USSR or those in favor of a union with the MP. Many of these people were welcomed into the Church with open arms, without adequate investigation; their claims were believed, that they were persecuted by the authorities or the MP. However, later, unfortunately it became apparent that some of these fugitives were, because of their behavior, unworthy of the priesthood. Some of them continued their usual missionary work, preaching Sergianism, Ecumenism and socialism. Thus ROCOR took in a Trojan Horse.

1. The New Martyrs and confessors of Russia, from the beginning with Metropolitans Cyril of Kazan and Joseph of Petrograd, and also subsequent Fathers of Russian Church Abroad and Catacomb Church always spoke about the need, after the persecutions of the faithful have ended, to bring to a free Sobor an appraisal of the acts of the Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky). The need of such an honest estimation of an this case for the instruction of future generations of the Russian people was stated after the Episcopal Sobor of 2001 by our then our new First-Hierarch Metropolitan Laurus. On this basis, the documents developed during negotiations by joint commissions can not be considered satisfactory, if they only express "how must it be" in terms of the relations between the Church with the state, but do not honestly express "how it was", to wit:
- the false, apostate nature of the Declaration of Metropolitan Sergius from the year 1927 and the church policy based on it (Metropolitan Anthony, ROCOR First-Hierarch of Blessed Memory, called it treachery);
- the usurpation of church power by Metropolitan Sergius through the creation of an uncanonical Synod and misappropriation to their authorities of the first bishop of country with subsequent punishments inflicted on all true Orthodox hierarchs, clergy and laymen;
-the renunciations of the New Martyrs and confessors and all those persecuted for the faith, labelling them as "political criminals" from the side of the Metropolitan Sergius and other Bishops of the MP;
-the collaboration of the Bishops of MP (including now as well) with the special organs of the rgodless authority (GPU, NKVD, KGB, FSB);
- false statements before world public about the absence of persecutions of the faith in the USSR and other false statements in order to please the godless authority.
The necessity and actuality of the foregoing is underlined by the recent fact of the appearance in edition of Sretensky monastery of book of S. Fomin "Guardianship of the house Lord", eulogizing Metropolitan Sergius with the benediction and with the preface of present head of the MP in which he actually specifies that Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky) is a saint, and also that in fact, with the blessing of the Nyzhegorodsk diocese of MP in Russia an area is already adopted and a monument being prepared in honour of "Patriarch Sergius" (in Arzamase). In ROC-MP, there must be an end to the artificially implanted honour of Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky) as a "rescuer of Church"; by contrast, it is desirable to set up a special committee on investigation of his acts (in particular, it is necessary to check up information about his letter to the NKVD in 1935 with the purpose of stopping an exit from the conclusion of the legitimate locum tenens of the Church, Metropolitan Peter of Krutitsk.)
That sergianism is not removed in MP is blatantly shown by the participation of the Patriarchate (beginning from its highest level Bishops) attested to in their electioneering in Ukraine for the side of one of candidates. By this participation-- which was in direct violation of both church and civil laws-- the MP showed its unity with a local criminal administrative resource and its complete dependence on external political forces.
