Brooks County sheriff says an unusually high number of bodies found
FALFURRIAS - Brooks County Sheriff Balde Lozano has seen a surge in the number of illegal immigrants dying on ranches this month.
Between June 8 and June 15, deputies have investigated the deaths of eight illegal immigrants in the county, he said. A ninth death was reported Thursday after human bones were found on a ranch 20 miles south of Falfurrias.
"There's miles and miles where there is nothing. There is no water, just brush," Lozano said. "They need to understand it's a very dangerous trip."
All of the immigrants are believed to have died from exposure and dehydration, Lozano said, and most of those found this month appear to have been dead for hours.
Lozano said the bones found Thursday were taken to the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office for possible identification. He said it appears a woman died several months ago, and investigators collected her clothing and a watch from the scene.
Few deceased illegal immigrants are ever identified. Lozano said authorities notify the Mexican Consulate when a body is found, even though many illegal immigrants come from other countries in Central America.
He added that groups of illegal immigrants who survive their journey have notified landowners and, if detained, Border Patrol agents when someone in their group is left behind.
Falfurrias' heat index on Friday was 105 degrees, according to KRIS 6 News meteorologist Dale Nelson. Nearly the entire month of June has seen a heat index of more than 100 degrees in the Brooks County area.
Simple solution to the Mexicans is don't cross the border.
Muerto Ping!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off this South Texas/Mexico ping list.
Normally I'd cry a river, but I'm afraid of an illegal swimming across.
Since TEXAS hasn't had ANY rain this MONTH. Maybe we should start a illegal alien weather alert system on the border, so they can be prepared for the lack of Water/airconditioning.
Good one !!!!!!!!!
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Why doesn't Lozano communicate to the Messican Government that he doesn't appreciate having to pick up the BODIES of it's citizens on local ranches.
It's hot.
If I was a rancher on the border I might just do that. I think I'd set up a water station in the shade whereby you push a button, and then have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for the water to come out. In the meantime, a signal would be automatically sent out to the Border Patrol.
Well maybe they will file suit against them using the latest Supreme Court decision to seize the ranches IN THE INTEREST OF PROMOTING THE PUBLIC GOOD. They can use the ranches as waystations for the illegals, terrorists included. A Document center (fake ofcourse), maps to the illegals chosen city. and heck lets go for the whole enchilada, transportation to said city. And ofcourse the INS,HLS,FBI,etc are forbidden from entering said property.
"They need to understand it's a very dangerous trip."
What they need is to demand reforms in their own country and stay there to make sure they get them.
I do it everyday. YOU are the first (that I have read) to comment in depth about the obvious solution to all of our problems.
We should be putting a lot more pressure on Mexican officials. Vincente Fox talks over the American people because it's how things are done in Mexico. I think it's time his office was flooded with e-mails from American citizens.
