Just back from WV. Such a beautiful state! What a total nut-job representing those fine folks!

By the way, there's a great cartoon that ran along with this in the WashTimes, if any of the more "techno-saavvy" would like to post it in the thread it may be found here:

I don't know a lot about the Scripps-Howard news service, although I will say if they are trying to become the Fox News of print, my hat's off to them

And, if that is the case, they will do well ...

I agree, good post! No such thing as a "mistaken" Klan membership, IMO.

Byrd's name at birth was Cornelius Calvin Sale Jr.

Doesn't sound that "white" for that era.

What the article does not note (because I chose not to write about it as a news reporter in May 1981) was the rest of Byrd's response to the Klan question.

This is an interesting sentence. Why didn't he write the complete story leaving out nothing?

If Byrd in his autobiography had just let it all hang out, it would have been so much better for him. Americans love candor in general, and the honestly candid sincere penitent sinner in particular. For some reason, politicians as a generality tend to be constricted in their moral imagination. That lack of imagination sometimes bites them in the ass. I wish that happened more often.

Robert Byrd could probably write a 700 page tome a month, the old blow hard.

Byrd is a dirt bag. I remember driving through oregon on a rainy
dark night and listening to Byrd on the radio pontificate on how the Senator
from oregon had dishonored the senate by his past conduct and how
he had to resign from the senate to preserve the honor of that
august chamber. I kept thinking to myself......you dirt bag....
you were a leader of the KKK....how could you even talk about
another senator stepping down to preserve the honor of the senate!!!!

Like Willisam Jefferson Clinton, Byrd can't hide the cynicism behind his politics. Had things been different, Byrd would have joined the Communist Party USA if it brought him closer to those "leading persons" belonged. Everything for Byrd and Clinton was about maintaining political "viability".

My county and town get so much BS thrown at them because of a Kluckhead who has been dead for 15 years. Some joker has an auction here with old Kluckster artifacts and it is international news.

Byrd's still alive. Why the hell aren't the same MSM going after him? Because he's a democrat. That's why.
