Whats the fuss? What part of BLACK Social Workers did he not understand?I thought any private group had a right to choose who their members were.I'd feel the same way if it were a WHITE Social Worker group who wanted to have a private gathering.
In reality,I have been in similiar situations where I was the "only white guy"at some all black meetings or gatherings. It was always because another black person vouched for me that I was"cool".Never a problem. This gentleman simply needs to get a black"sponsor".
Knowing the Black Social Worker Group as I do,I suspect the main motivation to come to New Orleans was to PAHTAY,baby, not sit and listen to seminars on the matriarchy or how to procure more government money!

This gentleman simply needs to get a black"sponsor".

The article says he was with 4 Black colleagues. So didn't they think he was 'cool'? Tsk tsk if not.

Anyway, normally I'd be on the side of free association, but it's too delicious to see this guy putting out some of the same demands that other parties have used to bust into country clubs, locker rooms, and the like. If it's a civil rights issue for one, it's a civil rights issue for all. Pick a standard and apply it uniformly.

I respectfully disagree with you........this is out and out discrimination and you know bloody well the NAACP would be screeching all over the MSM if there was even such a thing as a WHITE Social Workers organization, let alone if they excluded a black social worker from attending a meeting.

As to getting a black "sponsor" the guy was with 4 colleagues who did attend.........

Did you have any idea what the person meant when they said this about you?

I find the whole situation troubling and distasteful. If they want tax exempt status, then they need to drop their bigotry.

I saw a news story that talked about this guy's complaint. It also mentioned that anyone traveling to this convention on government money (i.e.: sent by their department) broke the law because of this discrimination.

As far as the big deal, I see it this way (starting with a quote from the article):

There are some conversations that black people need to have. If you included a white person in them, people may not feel free to speak their minds

Social workers are quintissentially governmental voices in most cases. If the person who said this believes that they can't be honest and frank in front of a diverse group, then they should be fired from any position representing the government they are in. After all, these are the people who are responsible for implementing the social net that defends the down trodden (we can debate the need for thi net some other time).

Basically, anyone of any color fearful of speaking their mind in a professional setting (making some large assumptions here) is promulgating the old, discredited "separate but equal" world view... With a reversal of roles, in this case.

I'm all for free association, as long as it's applied evenly

It's the double standards that is so troubling.

THis is old news in bakersfield. He heard about the conferance while he was at another and the flyer or add he saw didn't say anything about blacks only. He was told that when he tried to register.

If you look at what that HATE group thinks you will know why they didn't want ANY WHITES, not even white liberals. They are againest placing black foster kids with white families and againest white kids with black families.

I bet you could not even announce PLANS for a White social workers group without these RACISTS having a cow.
