For example, it is unfair to attribute all the energy used to grow a bushel of corn and process it into its value as an energy product (i.e. ethanol). Ethanol production is a co-product of corn processing and therefore should only be charged with the energy that was used to turn it into ethanol.

What a load!

No, the load would be to take the total energy cost of growing the corn, and producing the ethanol and assign it to the ethanol, and only the ethanol when there are multiple products produced as a result of the ethanol production. It would be something a liberal would do to justify their position.
