It may be, Flores said, that school is failing them. and yet, they want to be in charge of overseeing homeschools... homeschoolers might not be receiving quality educations, you know...

"no fault of their own"
This is exactly why they fail, because they can fail and then told "it's not their fault"
To: Mister Sophisticate
And when they can't get a job "it's not their fault" and when they become criminals "it's not their fault" and when the are burdens to society " it's not their fault" and when they die in prison "it's not their fault". Don't you just love liberalism you don't have to take responsibility for anything.

That's one town that sorely needs a burger-flipping magnet school.

143 out of 516 students had the grades and attendance level to pass, that means there is a 27.7% FAILURE rate. The question really shouldn't be about whether or not the kids get to participate in graduate, the question should be, why do many of the teachers and the principal still have jobs?

I'd be disappointed to learn that the parents of said flunkies are in an outrage over it. As it is, I'm sure they are not.

There shouldn't even BE a graduation ceremony for 8th graders. Or kindergarten, either. Save it for 12th grade.
From "The Incredibles":
Bob: It's not a graduation. He's moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade.
Helen: It's a ceremony.
Bob: It's psychotic! They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity.

Why show for class if there is no chance to flunk??

What's really appalling isn't the number of students in this class who don't "make the grade" for various reasons, it's that all the outrage seems to be over whether they are or are not eligible to participate in a graduation ceremony.
The article mentions the REAL problem, which is even though a large percentage of these students failed too many classes or missed too many days, they are ALL getting promoted!!
WTF????

So can the taxpayers stop paying the salaries of these people running the school who have proven themselves totally incompetent?

VOUCHERS!!! Please, no vouchers...I'm a homeschooler, and I know in my heart that with vouchers comes increased government oversight. The efficacy of such oversight is why we chose to homeschool in the first place. No, thanks.

Some other good lines are (and pardon the paraphrasing):
Helen: Everybody's special
Dash: Which is another way of saying no one is

Syndrome: When everyone is super, then no one will be.

This kind of thing drives me nuts. My son worked his backside off to really advance and achieve in math this year, and he advanced 6 levels (more than anyone else in his class.) When awards ceremony came around, he got the same "math achievement" award as the kid who did no extra work, and finally passed LEVEL ONE two weeks before the year ended. I know this kid, and he's very smart, just not motivated in the least.
How is that rewarding my child's hard work? It's not! (If my kid had been less than motivated, I would NOT expect him to get any kind of achievement award, and would not be angry that those who had actually worked were rewarded.) But hey, let's make sure the underachievers don't feel bad. THAT'S much more important than fostering the development of brilliant, hard-working students. /sarcasm
