Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.VA.)in recent weeks has met with Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.), chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), fuelling further speculation that the Republican Congesswoman will challenge Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) next year.

I doubt Bunning will retire, but if he does, I'm kinda torn on if I would want Northup to replace him. Sure, she's the safest bet, she'd easily keep the seat, but that would open up a very iffy House district, Kerry won it 51-49 I think. I'd almost rather appoint one of the congressman from a safer district.

Then again, Northup would make 100% sure we wouldn't lose the Senate seat, and her coattails could help any potential replacement, so whatever.

How can the GOP make gains if they just roll over and play dead? We have enough of that going on already - it is a losing mentality.

Unfortunately, Capito appears to be backing out of running. But Jeanine Pirro also appeared to be backing away and is now running against Hillary Clinton. So a Capito campaign is still possible.
