And in other news a poll confirms most people don't like the smell of feces. What the heck moron needed a POLL to figure this out?!??

Right.

Just keeping the word "draft" in the news seems to be the purpose.

Most of all, the military does not want a draft.

Maybe they can poll whether most people want higher taxes over and over and over, and link it to stories about the Democrats . . .

I once read that military recruitment is inversely proportional to the state of the economy. Makes sense. This would explain some of the recruitment shortfall.

People simply don't want their kids to be sent off to Iraq to be shot at in a situation in which the value of the war is becoming more and more questionable," said John Mueller, a political science professor at Ohio State University and author of "War, Presidents and Public Opinion."

Sorry bud, but you are so full of it you squeak.

They oppose the draft because it doesn't work worth sh*t, not because of Iraq, or for that matter, your liberal trash viewpoint.

Gee, an e-mail circulating just before the elections mostly on the college campuses promised that if Bush were reelected he had a secret plan to reinstate the draft with 90 days. I beleive John Kerry said much the same thing in his campaign. We must have dodged that bullet.

"If a military draft were reinstated, more than half in the poll, 54 percent, said they would oppose women being drafted."

Common sense. Most people don't understand how far the standards have been dropped to accomodate females into the military.

I see it's back to this stupid argument once again. Nobody is proposing a draft except Rangell and a few others, and their bill was soundly defeated in the last congress.

The idea of our military is to defend our country. We're doing that in Iraq so we don't have to do it on our own shores.

If enough people don't volunteer so that the military becomes undermanned, and we can't have a draft to bring it back up to full strength, just who will be defending this country?

In October, at my university (UT), somebody spraypainted "BUSH = DRAFT" on a busy overpass, very large and visible. The school had it removed promptly, but it's still slightly visible when you get close enough. Part of me wishes it was still there, as a reminder to the liberals of how often they're wrong!

I disagree. I think all women should have to register when they turn 18 just like men do, and if there is a draft they should also be drafted. The military has plenty of clerical, analytical, in-shop repair, and clinical positions for women to fill that would free up able bodied men for combat positions.

If the Feminazis want to scream 'equality' then they should be the first to demand to be registered for any future draft, but time and again when it gets down to doing their part to defend their great country they play the 'feminine' card.

"Oh, poor us, we hit a glass ceiling in the corporate world." "Oh, poor us, we can't get up at 5 am and do push-ups."

I support the draft with one modification: they could only draft conscripts from the student body of any university or college that does not permit US military recruiters to freely conduct their business.

I think we're hearing from the segment of our population that does not wish to see our nation defended, such as those "counter-recruiters."

I don't even know why this is a story. There will never be a military draft again in this country -- you can bank on it.
