You wrote...(As far as your trash goes, those aren't cats. Look into something called a "raccoon.")

Unfortunately you're wrong about my trash being the racoons fault. I don't need to "look into something called a racoon". I have seen the cats tearing into my trash with my own eyes in broad daylight and at night. I would know better than you what is getting into my trash because it is in front of my house! So this is pure speculation on your part.

You wrote...(Cats, not having opposable thumbs, have a helluva time with garbage-can lids.)

Not all my trash is contained in cans with lids. Sometimes I have to lay bags out by themselves when the cans are full from missing the trashman on the previous visit some are so full the lid doesn't fit tightly and one of my cans is missing a lid that blew away during bad weather. I shouldn't have to lock down all of my trash the night before to keep cats out of it. If the cats weren't roaming the streets it woudn't be a problem.Once again you assume to know what goes on at my house.

You wrote...(As far as your dog barking when he hears cats outside, that's his job as the family protector. If you do not wish him to bark when something walks by the window, correct him when he does it.)

His job as the protector is to alert me when a human trespasser that might endanger my family is lurking around my windows and house late at night. I don't want him barking and waking the entire household up from 11:30am to 5:00am because some dimwit cat freak is too irresponsible to properly care for their beast. That cat does'nt belong in my yard roaming around at 3am in the morning hissing and howling and fornicating around my families bedroom windows. I also don't think I should have to wake up at all hours of the night to "correct my dog" for barking at something that has no right being in my yard in the first place! Maybe the sorry ass cat owners should be correcting their cats!!!

You wrote....(If you do wish him to bark, you must put up with the barking. No dog I've ever met was smart enough to know to bark at other dogs but not the FedEx guy.)

You seem to totally miss my point. You seem to think all these problems are something that I am doing wrong and this is typical of people in todays society ( especially the left wing moonbats )You also fail to mention anything about the cats howling and hissing and fighting and fornicating around my bedroom window at 4:00am in the morning! Somehow I imagine you probably can think of some reason why that is my fault too. You're right about one thing...my dog is doing his job! His job is to alert me to any intruder lurking outside and around my home who is not supposed to be there and THESE CATS DO NOT BELONG IN MY YARD ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT!!!!!!!I don't understand why it is so difficult for people like you to understand this. And also my dog isn't smart enough to know the difference between a dog or a cat or a Fedex guy but on thing is for sure...the Fedex man doesn't approach my house at 2:30am and neither should some irresponsible neighbors animal! If these people kept their beasts under control my sleep would not be interupted it's that simple. Keep your freakin animals out of your neighbors yard and property and there wont be a problem!!!!!!! My god how simple is that?

Let's see... they don't bark, they don't maul people, they don't take a dump in your yard or on your porch (sandboxes notwithstanding)..

LOL! You are an expert on ALL cats? One neighborhood cat left a dump on the cement floor of my garage, no sand or sand box in sight. Since my daughter was the one who left the garage open all night, she had the pleasure of cleaning it up. If I catch a cat in my garage it's getting a size 13 reminder that it doesn't belong there.

Hmm, did I bill myself as "an expert on ALL cats" (emphasis yours) - is it in my signature or something, maybe I missed it. By your insinuation, hey, maybe ALL cats take dumps on garage floors.

I read a story about a dog attacking a kid the other day. Does that mean ALL dogs attack kids? Do all old, crazy, wombat ladies poison cats? Maybe so.. and I have a feeling all of those old, crazy, wombat ladies are here in this thread.. ;)

Now you may continue "laughing out loud.." :)

Hoo-ah! Goodness. Well, those cats sound like a bit of a problem, but so does your inordinant stress level. You need to relax, bud. Try drinking. I tend to enjoy it.

Of all the things "we've" learned, proper netiquette apparently isn't one of them..

From your original post:

"Let's see... they don't bark, they don't maul people, they don't take a dump in your yard or on your porch (sandboxes notwithstanding).."

What is "they" referring to? All cats? Calico cats? Just your precious puddy tat? Some cats? If it's referring to "some cats" than the statement is useless.

I never asserted that ALL cats dump on cement garage floors. I clearly indicated that ONE cat did so. And since I was offering a counter-example to your statement concerning the discretion used by cats as to where they dump, one example is all I need.

Oh please. Is this how discussions with you usually go? Ever heard of description by comparison? If you were a teacher, and you told your students: "Dogs bark and lick you in the face, while cats meow and climb trees," some smartass student would come back and say "I know a dog that can climb trees... and I heard it meow."

"So, teach, you're not an expert on ALL dogs, are you? Your statement is meaningless, isn't it?"

Teacher: "No, not meaningless.. I'll explain.. but first, hold still, there is a bug on your face.." - SMACK

-- But hey, how about a taste of your own medicine? If you're analyzing my post that literally (and much like a 3rd grader from my example above would do), I never said anything about garage floors, now did I? I mentioned yards and patios. ;)

But let's clear it up right now for you right now. The word is not ALL, nor is it SOME.

It's MOST. And I'm pretty sure MOST people reading my post were able to make that distinctinon. Complicated, I know.

:)

From post 137:
I don't demand all cats stay inside, just off my property.

It's a weird world where cat owners think their pets are somehow different from all other animals. They are not.

From post 142 (your reply):
Let's see... they don't bark, they don't maul people, they don't take a dump in your yard or on your porch (sandboxes notwithstanding)..

They kill mice and rodents..

Yeah, they're real wrecking machines. I can imagine the need to keep them off your property at all costs.

The original poster was discussing their desire for other cat owners to keep their cats of the posters property. You replied with the characteristics of MOST cats. The the set of "MOST cats" you are describing does not necessarily contain the set of cats that the original poster was discussing. Therefore you've made a statement that lends nothing to the discussion.

Why not just let people have their own opinion based on their personal experiences? You and your neighbors may have wonderful cats who help old people with their grocery shopping, while other people may have neighbors whose cats dump in and spray their property. Those people in the second category understandably want the cats kept out of their yards, the characteristics of MOST cats notwithstanding.

So what? If this were just a thread about cat behavior, and/or the bad behavior of some cats and whether they should roam around (as they have since the days of the Eqyptian pharoahs) then maybe I would agree with you.

But in the context of a thread about a woman who has poisoned two family pets, I'm appalled by those who defend her actions by proxy with the "keep them off my property or ELSE" attitude. They'd feel different if their lovely golden retreiver accidentally slipped out of the house or yard one day, and their neighbor down the street saw fit to blast it off the porch. After all, we have a right to keep these beasts off our property, right?

And I love dogs, I have a lab myself. But I understand how differently dogs and cats be behave and live. Both have good/bad aspects to that behavior. After all, I'm the 'expert,' right? Oh wait, I never said that - you did.

Why not just let people have their own opinion based on their personal experiences?

-sigh- Look, we could go on and on with this conversation, but is it really worth it?. Let me just go back to that perspective that everyone seems to forget, that this is a discussion board, that all we do here is share opinions - and to answer your question, my opinion and "personal experiences" are just as valid as anyone's - yours, or the poster I was responding to (who apparently was less interested in my comment then you are).

So go man your defenses, prepare the anti-cat periphery on your property and bunker down for a long summer of cat attacks. It is indeed a mad, crazy, cat-astrophic world we live in.

;)

You're right I do need to relax but you see I can't because of people who don't control their beasts and people who sympathize with said beast owners and argue in support of said beast owners hmmm...wonder who they might be? I don't drink or do drugs to numb my senses and I shouldn't have to. What I need to relax is a good nights sleep but you see I can't seem to get that because of irresponsible beast owners who feel it is their right to let their animals roam freely across all the land to disturb their neighbors while they sleep comfortably in their home without experiencing the nasty behavior of their beasts that should be in their home at night. pretty simple observation to understand one would think.

I wrote SO WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS IS IF YOU ARE..." etc..

you wrote (Of all the things "we've" learned, proper netiquette apparently isn't one of them..)

I'm sorry I made a mistake and didn't realize I had caps on and hit post without proofreading first. I know better but I screwed up it wasn't meant to be shouting. I can admit a mistake when I make on ( can you? )you don't appear to be the type that can. You sound like a know-it-all to me and so does xenalyte. Perhaps it is because you are both cat owner apologists.

you wrote (But in the context of a thread about a woman who has poisoned two family pets, I'm appalled by those who defend her actions by proxy with the "keep them off my property or ELSE" attitude. Im appaled that you and xenalyte try to make excuses for irresponsible pet owners letting their animals disturb my sleep! What this old lady did was end a problem that had been gnawing at her for quite some time with neighbors who knew of her complaints and did nothing. That is a far cry from a sweet golden lab just on one occasion slipping out of his yard accidentally ( not left out intentionally as her neighbors cats were day in and day out)and getting blasted off the porch with a shotgun ( my how you dramtize that would be scenario) but this is typical of people who try to argue a point that is indefensible.

The fact of the matter is cat owners and all pet owners need to be in control of their varmits 24/7 and can make no excuses when harm comes to their pet. It is ultimately their fault and responsibility when harm comes to their pet when they have lost control of their animal (and that means getting out of the fenced yard or running out the door unexpectedly or whatever other excuse you can think of) it's nobodys fault but their own PERIOD!!!!! ( sorry about the caps I couldn't resist)

"Whoa! I have the same problem with cats in my twins' sandbox. I just shoot them with a pellet from an air gun. If it kills 'em, good. If not, maybe the stupid animals will learn a lesson, but since we're talking about cats, I'm not holding my breath...but I am reloading."

I'm going to have trouble sleeping tonight knowing that you've reproduced. What are your kids' names? Jeffrey and Gary (as in Dahmer and Hydnik)?

Duh! Cover the sandbox when they're not using it!"

Paulat, you know, that requires thought to do that. I don't think this poster has too many synapses left for it. I think he's too busy watchin' Nascar to think that kind of stuff up.

Duh! Keep your animals in your house and out of other peoples yards! How much thought does that take? Obviously too much thought for you girls!

Wait let me get this straight. In your convoluted mind somehow an irresponsible neighbors cat crapping in his kids sandbox on his property is his fault because he doesn't cover it every night after his kids have played in it. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

You people are sick in the brain you really are!

also when he's watching NASCAR he's not bothering his neighbors. Did you know that NASCAR is the biggest, most watched and most profitable spectator sport in the USA. I quess all these americans that are into racing are just knuckle dragging neanderthals to you femi-natzis!

You modern day women make me sick. Without men you little girls wouldn't have roads to drive your fancy cars on or buildings to go to work in or houses to live in or electric, phone and other utilities. You wouldn't be able to bump your lickers on your cell phones to each other cracking jokes about how stupid your men are because you don't have the muscle and nerve to erect the towers necessary to communicate. Like it or not men have dominated the earth and invented and implemented almost every thing you see around you. Even sandboxes!

Only in america have women become so anal that they think they are above men. The only really stupid thing men have done is allow you women to think you are smarter than us.

Bdog: Last time I checked, I don't own a cell phone, deplore those who talk on the phone while driving, and never complain about my husband. You should go to soc.men on Google usenet. They'd love you. Lots of misogynistic threads to choose from.

Actually, I AGREE with keeping one's animals in the house. I have three cats in a one bedroom apartment (yea, its a bit tight, but we're moving soon anyway), and they DO NOT leave the house. EVER. When it is warm and I want to open the back door for air, I wrangle them up and put them all in the bedroom for their own safety. I am a responsible pet owner and a die hard cat lover.

And as far as the man with the sandbox, I think it's a bit dangerous for small children to be around an open pit. In today's world, you open yourself up to litigation even if you feel you are being responsible homeowner. In fact, a pool owner was sued and lost when a child died after falling in the pool when the owner was out of town. The pool area was locked and gated, but the kid found a way in. The judgment ruled against him because he should have alerted the neighbors that he was going out of town, because he had this "deadly" pool in his backyard. I know, it's nuts, but that's how it is. Even our own private property is not sacred. (I don't know the source for this case. I came across it and it stuck in my mind when I was updating law journals for my employer.)

Also, I have a new neighbor below me, whose kitten KEEPS getting out. I have brought it to her twice (didn't hear a thank you either time) and if I see it out again, I'm taking it to a local cat rescue. I would NEVER hurt the animal, but I think it IS suffering from a lack of responsibility by its current owner.

But as far as Nascar is concerned....what a huge waste of gasoline. I've done security at our local raceway and I've never seen a bigger bunch of drunk rednecks than I did in that infield. Totally turned me off to the sport.

And what's with Calvin peeing on EVERY driver number? I drive by these cars with the Calvin sticker peeing on a 3, peeing on a 28....Doesn't Calvin have any loyalty?
