EL PASO A man who admitted trying to firebomb the Islamic Center of El Paso last year has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, the Justice Department said Wednesday.
Antonio Flores pleaded guilty in March to charges related to hate crimes. Investigators said that Flores threw a Molotov cocktail at the center in September and put a similar device near a gas meter on the center's property.
According to court records, Flores told investigators that he was angry about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and wanted to scare Muslims.
Flores was sentenced to 171 months in prison and three years of probation.
"He's a dangerous lunatic and we're all better off for having him locked up."
Well, one can see this from more than one perspective.
You're sure this man is a lunatic? You know him?
What he did, I'd venture a guess that many of us have thought about something similar more than once.
Are we at war with terrorists? Hasn't the face of terror shown itself in the form of islam? Not all islamists are terrorists, but 19 islamists killed over 3000 Americans in America in one day. And it took many more than 19 to orchestrate the event.
Is this man a lunatic, or a man of passion? A man who acted.
The American revolution... I'm sure the British called them lunatics.
Perspectives.
I'm not advocating violence, just looking at more than one side.
let's all chip in and send him some smokes in prison
Two-Ply Koran paper.
---I hope Muslims throughout America sit down today and think about what they may have done to compel Mr. Flores to behave like this.---
That'll be the day---lol
Mr. Flores was an amateur; domestically, it's early days.
"What would his sentence be in December, 1941 if it had been a Japanese Temple? Less or more?"
Less, much less! And believe me, that comparison came to mind immediately for me. We are at war. And, to some extent, they are the enemy within.
Not that I want to see innocent people hurt. I don't want to be on their level. But if an empty mosque is burned, I'd have a hard time being upset by that.
Amazing.
'Gov. Rick Perry flew in to lay toss the first ceremonial brick for at the center's foundation.'
There! Fixed it.

I don't know him. Like many do on this forum I'm making assumptions about his character based on what I read of his actions. I agree that many of us have probably thought about similar actions. Only the dangerous lunatics act on those thoughts. They end up in jail where they don't end up hurting those of us who can control our impulses. Good riddance.
This sentence is ridiculous. Didn't the maniac who torched dozens of SUV's in California only get 8 years???
"He's a dangerous lunatic and we're all better off for having him locked up. If it hadn't been this it probably would have been something else."
Screw that. If 9-11 wasn't enough to make any American wish this death cult called "Islam" would be eradicated on a global scale, maybe a few beheading videos and desecrated and burned U.S. soldiers' bodies should do the trick. And now we get to hear how our soldiers have to hold their stinking instruction manual (Koran) in two gloved hands lest they contaminate the piece of shit! I'd shake Mr. Flores' hand and tell him nice try. It's kind of sad that he wasn't succesful. I personally wish he would have turned into the greatest serial Mosque burner in American history, and still be on the damn job.
The irony, of course, is that the goal of islam is to have the mosque become the state.
Of course the 9/11 attacks themselves were not hate crimes, because they were just mad at our unfair foreign policy. And of course none of the South Central L.A. murderers were guilty of hate crimes, because they were just mad over the King verdict.
The Ivy league grad Earth First maniac who burned dozens of SUV's and a dealership in California got only 8 years in jail, and the Judge "felt sorry" for him. This sentence is despicable.
Verdicts like this make you wonder who is REALLY winning the war on terror.

OK. And I suppose you'd be willing to accept it as collateral damage if this guy ended up burning down some non-Muslim's building next door. I think much needs to be done to rid America and the world of radical Islam. But I say "no thanks" to nuts throwing firebombs. It rings a little German to me.
