EL PASO A man who admitted trying to firebomb the Islamic Center of El Paso last year has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, the Justice Department said Wednesday.
Antonio Flores pleaded guilty in March to charges related to hate crimes. Investigators said that Flores threw a Molotov cocktail at the center in September and put a similar device near a gas meter on the center's property.
According to court records, Flores told investigators that he was angry about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and wanted to scare Muslims.
Flores was sentenced to 171 months in prison and three years of probation.
Evidently that means that firebombing and attempted firebombing are not already crimes in and of themselves in Texas. What a strange oversight, huh...
"This comment shouldn't get me banned... end of comment."
Hmmmm... I'm in that category. Everything I think about this case... well... I'll keep my account active and keep my thoughts to myself.
Why not ask the type of question liberals love to use regarding the behavior of jihadists. what made Mr. Flores so angry?
Maybe he could say he thought the place was a US Flag. Then the ACLU would help him. /sarcasm (or is it)
Muslims are really just inspiring the recruitment of more Floreses by their words and actions.
I hope Muslims throughout America sit down today and think about what they may have done to compel Mr. Flores to behave like this.
Plano Texas The Ismaili Muslim community announced Tuesday that it is building a $6.5 million worship and community center in Plano, where it has found a warm welcome.
Gov. Rick Perry flew in to lay the first ceremonial brick for the center's foundation
Me three.
"Flores was simply too upset by world events to restrain himself. People have a breaking point, after all."
He's a dangerous lunatic and we're all better off for having him locked up. If it hadn't been this it probably would have been something else.
lala - la - la - la......
Apparently you couldn't grasp the sarcasm dripping from my post.
Er..last I checked, people didn't get banned for expressing opinions on these types of things. Are you afraid to speak your mind?
What would his sentence be in December, 1941 if it had been a Japanese Temple? Less or more?
"Apparently you couldn't grasp the sarcasm dripping from my post."
You are correct. Although in my defense I have certainly seen similar statements made on certain threads that were quite serious.
In any event, never mind.
Me, too. I'm not going to push my "free speech" rights on this case. I'll just bite my tongue.
Nope - that's not what I was going to say.
I would be ok with just 3 years probation and deferred adjudication.
Sounds like the gov. is kissing muslim ass too.
