I live just east of California's "Bloody Triangle" (Point Reyes/Farallon Is/Ano Nuevo), which has more Great White attacks on humans than anywhere else on earth.
I don't want anything from them, I'm merely commenting how the idealistic animal worshipers who are probably vegan, tree-hugging, greenhouse gas-phobic types are too stupid to let a poor creature go into the wild because they are "uncomfortable". It just doesn't "feel" right.
I didn't see in the article how they "would have been killed outright" as you say. Maybe my cynicism is misguided and they all dig Ann Coulter. No big whoop.
I am not willing to slam the whole varied group of people who keep and study animals in zoos and aquariums as stupid. They've chose a life doing what interests them. I think their jobs must be pretty cool.
The shark was caught by accident by a fisherman. Most fisherman would have killed such a catch outright, and taken pictures of himself next to it for the newspapers, not gotten on the phone to see if anyone might want it alive. Under the circumstance, they tried to put together a pen for it in a hurry and failed.
So what... I don't know if they like Ann Coulter, but your cynicism is clouding your perspective. It's a shark. They've never done well in captivity, but they gave it a shot. I don't know how often they eat or if 8 days is too long or whether feeding it would have been futile under the stress of the move. Do you?
Do I know whether or not 8 days is too long for a GWS to go without eating? I'll assume thats a rhetorical question.
And yeah, I'm a bit cynical today. They gave it a shot and I've no problem with any of that. And you're right, I shouldn't have generalized about the marine workers of course.
But just imagine the outcry if this had happened in a Zoo or at a Circus! Oh the humanity!!
I'm gonna guess aquarium and zoo types are not exactly PETA vegan animal rights types, PETA vegan animal rights types don't believe in captivity. These guys are animal enthusiasts.
Agreed, there might be more outcry if it was a cute animal.
I guess no one thought to throw in our old chum, Dick Durbin.
Too late now. Dammit.
"Five foot five..."
I took my kid to Sea World once. He asked one of the experts there why they did not have a great white, and the response was "They don't do well in captivity. No one knows why, but they don't."
They got freaked out when they went to Universal Studios and saw Jaws.
The animal had not eaten since her capture...
I guess no one thought to throw in our old chum, Dick Durbin.
That would poison the whole tank.
I am no member of PETA, but I can't condone that kind of cruelty to animals.
well, some mornings I just wake up in a foul mood.
Call the judges in Florida. I'm sure they'll find one that said the shark actually wanted to die.
