Democrats are demanding that White House adviser Karl Rove immediately retract and apologize for comments that liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to ``prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.''
``The one thing New York has had since Sept. 11 is unity,'' said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. ``To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people'' is outrageous, he said. ``It's not what New York and America is all about.''
Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, said in a speech Wednesday that ``liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.'' Conservatives, he said in the speech to the New York state Conservative Party just a few miles north of Ground Zero, ``saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war.''
Rove said the Democratic Party made the mistake of calling for ``moderation and restraint'' after the terrorist attacks.
Schumer said Democrats were drafting a letter asking Rove to retract his remarks. Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also called on President Bush to ``immediately repudiate Karl Rove's offensive and outrageous comments.''
Rove also denounced Sen. Dick Durbin's comments comparing interrogation at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to the methods of Nazis and other repressive regimes. He said the statements have been broadcast throughout the Middle East, putting U.S. troops in greater danger. The Illinois Democrat has since apologized for the remarks.
``No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals,'' Rove said.
Rove should get up where all the cameras should see him, and then say:
It was inappropriate for me to say that liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. What I really should have said was that liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers and also expected the American public to be stupid enough to forget that they did it.
....the hypocrisy of the Democrat Party is stunning, amusing and outright laughable.....BTW...where are Leiberman, Bayh, et al? Did they quit and go home??? Did you happen to see Her Highness Hitlery standing beside UpChuck Schummer on demanding that Rove apologize??? Puleeeezz...
You're right. Good post in the New York Post today.

Rove should say exactly what Turban-Durbin said:
"If anyone is offended by what I said, I'm sorry that you were offended."
But apologize for saying what he said? You've got to be kidding me.
I think Rove should put out a press release saying that if you stand up and declare yourself a liberal, he will appologize for hurting your feelings.....
Like it or not, "Either you're with us or you're against us." Period.
Okay. . .
I regret that I had to explain that, instead of attacking the terrorists, liberals wanted to understand them. I am saddened that I was compelled to tell the public that the democrats felt the need to call for "moderation and restraint" in the aftermath of 9/11. I am sorry that, by telling the truth, I have "defamed" a great number of people.
No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals!
Liberals have been anxiously waiting nearly 4 years to slap the "politicizing 9/11" charge on a Republican.
Good point. I honestly don't know who did demand that Durbin apologize.
"Liberals have been anxiously waiting nearly 4 years to slap the "politicizing 9/11" charge on a Republican."
And this is while they have been attacking Bush for reading the children's book too long, not flying back to Washington immediately, and pushing tin foil hat theories about how Bush was behind 9/11 in the first place.
Suddenly they are trying to wrap themselves in "national unity". What a crock.
Hey I'm a Marine. You know where our minds are when we aren't making bad guys cry uncle.
Excellent point. Bears repeating.
Hahaha, very true.
Man, I still remember my retired-Marine-turned-geometry-teacher in 10th grade. Wasn't the best teacher I ever had, but my attention never strayed!
One kid in the class, a real ass (who straightened out and is now a nuclear engineer on a sub!), would always goof off and sleep in class and such. Usually he would just get yelled at.
One day, the dude had his head lying on the desk, and started snoring. After saying his name twice, with no response, my teacher walked over to the kids desk (in the front row) and kicked the hell out of the bottom of it, right under his head. The sleeping guy's face went up, and then back down on the desk, really hard! I will never forget that!
so...
WHY ARE DEMOCRAPS SO MAD??????
one of his own, Mayor Daley. Conservatives are more than happy to let them tell the country how they really feel.
Ah yes, Daley did demand an apology. I had forgotten that.
Surprising that Richie did that, in a way, but his son is in the military now, so family will always trump politics.
Blood is thicker than water, or whatever it is politicians have running in their veins.
There's a little truth to it. I don't know about this specfic instance though.
Uh, no, the Illinois DemocRat said he was sorry that some people were offended by the remarks, a nuanced difference lost upon AP writers, who write with big blue crayons.
