Democrats are demanding that White House adviser Karl Rove immediately retract and apologize for comments that liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to ``prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.''
``The one thing New York has had since Sept. 11 is unity,'' said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. ``To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people'' is outrageous, he said. ``It's not what New York and America is all about.''
Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, said in a speech Wednesday that ``liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.'' Conservatives, he said in the speech to the New York state Conservative Party just a few miles north of Ground Zero, ``saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war.''
Rove said the Democratic Party made the mistake of calling for ``moderation and restraint'' after the terrorist attacks.
Schumer said Democrats were drafting a letter asking Rove to retract his remarks. Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also called on President Bush to ``immediately repudiate Karl Rove's offensive and outrageous comments.''
Rove also denounced Sen. Dick Durbin's comments comparing interrogation at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to the methods of Nazis and other repressive regimes. He said the statements have been broadcast throughout the Middle East, putting U.S. troops in greater danger. The Illinois Democrat has since apologized for the remarks.
``No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals,'' Rove said.
It's about time the Republicans started to call the Democraps for what they are--anti-war, anti-American traitors. This is a charge that will resonate with the American people and should be leveled every day and every way and by everyone who loves this country. They can't stand that kind of heat. Where are our "moveon" kinds of groups running ads with Durbin, Reid and all the rest of the terrorist sympathizers center stage? We need to generate that kind of heat on the Democraps.
I think using the word "liberal" is perfect. He forces the Dems who are offended to admit they are liberal first, then it forces them to explain why they are not what Rove says they are. Its a pretty tall order for a bunch of phonies trying to paint themselves as moderates.
After 9/11, liberals bought korans. Conservatives bought guns.
``immediately repudiate Karl Rove's offensive and outrageous comments.''
Anyone got a number for Schmucky's office? (I'd like to now what his statement regarding Durbin's remarks was.)
Whack 'em again Karl. Or apologize " I am sorry that the democrats are such traitorous fools."
As I recall their main concern was that the airport screeners be dues paying union members before they lift a finger to help America.
G.F.Y.
I don't get it, why oh why do Repub's walk around looking at the ground mumbling when they get a Demo in the corner?
"Time to quit pussy footing around!!"
So true. If this from Rove is making heads spin in lefty la-la land, I propose Karl really give it to them. Perhaps some of our problems might get solved if they went into shock at something stronger.
now if he'd have said Democrats, then I could see their demand, but he said liberals...guess they were a lil over-sensitive and defensive. Yay. :)
AMEN!!!!!
The Illinois Democrat has since apologized for the remarks.
Well. He didn't apologize for what he said, he said he apologized for being mis-interpreted.
Ya mean Schmuck Chewmer?
A communist by any other name is still a .....
{Doesn't that plagerize Durbin?}
lol. You're right. Then he would have to apologize to Durbin for feeling the same way as...Durbin.
Because they want to be good little Muslims and their "holy" book tells them to.
``liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.'' Conservatives, he said in the speech to the New York state Conservative Party just a few miles north of Ground Zero, ``saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war.''
I see nothing here to apologize for. Perhaps if they weren't comparing our troops to the worst of the worst evil minds in modern history, perhaps if they weren't humanizing Saddam and branding our president a mass murderer, perhaps if they weren't determined to release terrorirts to kill innocents in the name of PR, perhaps if they weren't petitioning their buddies in robes to give them the rights of U.S. citizens in our Courts...they might have a point!
``prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers.''
Rove says it as it is. Thank God.
