I think Bush and Republican Legislators WILL back property rights. Its a slam dunk.
No chance. The administration was going to file a brief on behalf of the homeowners and backed off when petitioned by developers.
Also, we can flog the Democrats on this issue. ALL their Justices supported this decision. Message: "Vote Democrat, keep losing your property rights..."
My honest opinion is that this has escalated well beyond the point of partisan politics and that this once we need to (egads) work together to slap some sense into the Washington elites that brought us this fiasco.

As I posted on another thread, this ruling enrages people of all political persuasions because it endangers a basic human survival need: shelter.
What is infuriating is that unlike the little guy, these justices are in no danger of having to move their families and lose a huge amount of value in the biggest investment that most people ever make: their homes.

Old Mil, I still think legislation will pass. Perhaps not at the federal level but certainly the state level. Check the post today (6/26/05) about Virginia Property Legislation. I agree that pols dont want to back this stuff but sometimes its just too overpowering. I noticed that Freepers and DU's are all on the same side of this issue.
