I have never, ever said anything negative about the brave servicemen who attempted the rescue. I prayed for their success. My contempt is reserved exclusively for the Commander-in-Chief. Carter was a micro-manager who refused to send adequate resources to effect the rescue, and people died because of it.
During the rescue attempt, and during much of the entire hostage crisis, I was underwater, getting my news from tiny strips of teletype. As a submariner, I had expected far more from a former submariner. And as an American, I expected my President to look out for American interests.
