June 20 (ABC7) Beginning today in San Jose, police recruits and new hires are required to learn basic Spanish. The Latino community accounts for a big portion of San Jose's population, and the police department is hoping this new program will help make the city even safer. ABC7's Thuy Vu reports.
Officers in training at the San Jose Police Academy are learning not only how to shoot, but how to speak Spanish as part of their jobs.

There training should consist of nothing more than
"ALTO / PARADA" (STOP)
It would probably make their jobs easier to know a few basic phrases like, "No, halt, freeze, hands behind your head, interlace your fingers, face away, lay down, you're guilty, you're trespassing, and a few others.

The big question is will ability to speak English be a requirement?
If I'm not mistaken, Asians make up a huge portion of the populace in many California areas. I can only assume they will make basic Vietnamese or Chinese or Korean mandatory too.

When my son joined the IDF he learned how to shoot and speak basic Arabic.
